Our OCB Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium pitch report tells you all you need to know.
Situated in the Mirpur area, the stadium was initially constructed as a football ground, with it hosting games at the 1987 Asian Club Championship and 1988–89 Asian Club Championship.
After being repurposed, the stadium has held various big international matches including in the 2011 World Cup and multiple Asia Cups.
Having been fitted with floodlights in 2009, the stadium is able to host day and night time cricket matches.
The first ODI here took place in December 2006, with Test cricket coming to Mirpur the following year. Its maiden T20 between Bangladesh and West Indies was then played in 2011.
Stuart Binny took six wickets for four runs here to record the best bowling figures in an ODI match by an Indian player.
The Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium is where most Bangladesh Premier League matches, including play-off clashes and finals, have been played in the tournament's history.
Dhaka Gladiators play their home BPL games at the Mirpur stadium as well, with the team having won three titles in the competition to date.
The ground is usually regarded as a batter-friendly surface, but scoring in T20 matches has not been particularly high on the Dhaka ground in recent years.
During 2024, the average first innings score in T20s here was 153, with none of the past few years seeing an average score of over 160 on the ground.
Chasing is more of an advantage here than batting first, unlike some of the other major BPL grounds.
Teams batting first have only won 44.9% of matches here according to data collected by Cricmetric, while the chasing side comes out on top 55.1% of the time.
Medium pace bowlers have a high economy rate in T20 games here, which should be considered by captains along with the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium pitch report.
Fast bowlers have some of the lowest bowling averages in T20s here, so there is certainly some help at hand for quicks.
The pitch can be bouncier than most of the other main BPL venues, so quick bowlers can test the reflexes of batters.
