Chinnaswamy Stadium Pitch Report
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has a much smaller area than a lot of the grounds used for the Indian Premier League, which helps to explain why the scoring is typically far higher at this venue. The powerful West Indies batter Chris Gayle proved this when he played an IPL game here in 2013, featuring for RCB in a game against Pune Warriors and making an incredible 175 off 66 balls.
Former RCB bowler Harshal Patel described M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as a "small ground" and added that "the ball generally flies", which provides a lot of help to batters who play here. In the 2024 season, the average first innings score in T20s on this ground was over 183, which is slightly down on the average of more than 195 that was recorded in the previous year. There is a narrow advantage to batting second with chasing teams winning 52.6% of T20s in Bengaluru. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch report shows fast bowlers and leg-break bowlers have the lowest average here, while history indicates medium paces struggle to keep economy rates low.
