Arun Jaitley Stadium - the home of Indian Premier League side Delhi Capitals - first opened more than 140 years ago, so it is one of the most historic sporting venues in the world.

India's second oldest cricket stadium after Eden Gardens of Kolkata, its former names include Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, after it was named after a nearby fort. In 2019, the stadium was renamed in honour of the former DDCA President and finance minister Arun Jaitley, while ex-India captain Virat Kohli has a stand named after him. Arun Jaitley Stadium can hold 35,200 cricket fans.

The stadium is where Anil Kumble, the brilliant Indian spin bowler, took all 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan, becoming only the second player in history to achieve the feat. Other moments of note at Arun Jaitley Stadium include Sachin Tendulkar breaking Sunil Gavaskar's record of the most Test hundreds when he scored his 35th Test ton here against Sri Lanka. The stadium was used when India hosted the Cricket World Cup in 1987, 1996, 2011 and 2023, as well as for 2016 ICC World Twenty20. The last international match for Ashish Nehra was here.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Cricket Pitch Report

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report

Arun Jaitley Stadium is often described as a batting paradise, with high scores common here. The Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch report shows a flat surface with reliable bounce, meaning batters can trust the pitch and launch balls high into the air. The Delhi stadium had a huge first innings average score of more than 235 in T20 matches during the 2024 season, while the data from Cricmetric shows there is an advantage to batting second, with 55.6% of chasing sides winning.

Some of the high scores here can be explained by the fact that the Arun Jaitley Stadium has shorter boundaries than many of the other grounds used for the Indian Premier League. Leg-breaks could be the way to go according to the Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch report as these bowlers have both the lowest economy rate and lowest average in T20 matches in Delhi.

Medium pace bowlers tend to go for high scores on this ground, which captains and coaches might need to take into account when selecting their teams for T20 matches played here.
