YOR vs WRW Match Prediction - Jun 22, 2023

Unless Yorkshire suddenly gets their act together, they’ll be in danger of missing the finals, as right now they’re on the outside at 5th place (6-5). Those two straight losses to Derbyshire and Northamptonshire didn’t help, especially as those are teams below Yorkshire.

Birmingham recovered well from three straight defeats to pick up three victories in a row, and right now is at the top of the North Group (7-3). They’re still tied with Nottinghamshire for points (14), but a win today would give them such an advantage in the knockout round.

The bad news for Birmingham is that batters Sam Hain and bowler Craig Miles are expected to miss the rest of the tournament due to injuries.

Yorkshire vs. Birmingham Bears will take place at Headingley, Leeds, on June 22nd. All the latest cricket betting tips can be seen right here.

YOR vs WRW Team Previews

Yorkshire

Yorkshire always has a chance to win with Dawid Malan on the team. As the league leader in runs scored (525), Malan is head and shoulders above any batter in the T20 Blast. His aggressiveness and shot-making decisions are sublime, and although there are two odd games with scores of 2 & 3, he already has five half-centuries.

Adam Lyth is a tough batter to watch, as there’s clearly talent there and he’s scored 202 runs so far, but he’s also very inconsistent and frustrating. Apart from a 90* effort, his other four recent games add up to just 8 runs. Malan is a genius, but he needs more help, as the other batters are almost invisible in some games.

Thompson has bowled decently, with 19/414 for the season, but he’s giving up a lot of runs in the process. He had a brilliant 5/21 in 2023, so we’d love to see more effort like that. Ben Mike has been up and down, and while Thompson is usually good for roughly two wickets per game, Mike can go stretches with nothing. His 13/359 figures are fine, but Yorkshire bowling has been iffy lately.

Yorkshire Playing 11

Adam Lyth, Dawid Malan, Shan Masood, James Wharton, Matthew Revis, Jonathan Tattersall, Jordan Thompson, Matthew Fisher, Dom Bess, David Wiese, Jafer Chohan.

Birmingham Bears

Losing Sam Hain to a hamstring injury is gutting, especially as he’s the leading scorer with 417 runs. There’s a chance he could play again if Birmingham makes the championship match, but there are a lot of question marks. Davies (271) and Yates (204) will have to be the batsmen to pick up the slack. They’ve played fine at times, but now’s the moment to show their worth. We hoped for more from Maxwell, too, as he’s been quiet with only 122 runs.

Birmingham’s bowling has also suffered recently, as pacer Craig Miles will miss the tournament after picking up a hamstring injury. He’d been great with 10/210 in the season, but the club will lose Hasan Ali for international duty, and already lost Moeen Ali to the Ashes.

There are some players who can fill the void, including Briggs (12/212) and Mousley (10/225), but we’d like to see more of what Brookes can provide, as he’s on 8/238 right now.

Birmingham Bears Playing 11

Robert Yates, Alex Davies, Glenn Maxwell, Dan Mousley, Chris Benjamin, Jacob Bethell, Chris Woakes, Ed Barnard, Henry Brookes, Danny Briggs, Jake Lintott.

YOR vs WRW Toss Prediction

If winning the toss, batting first is unquestionably the best course of action. The side batting first has prevailed 37 times out of 60 games, thus any captain should see how these games typically play out in the past.

Pitch and Conditions

One of the greatest cricket fields for an equal contest is Headingley. The bounce will be decent, and spin won't bother the batters too much. Even though pace bowlers occasionally have trouble, they might benefit from the pitch if they are accustomed to its movement and speed.

YOR vs WRW Betting Tips

Birmingham has won the last two games against Yorkshire, but with so many injuries facing the Bears, it’s not going to be easy. We think this is the chance Yorkshire needs to pick up an invaluable win, as you can’t miss an opportunity like this.

If Malan and Lyth can both score half-centuries, and Thompson continues his standout bowling, then Yorkshire should be able to win this convincingly. Plus, the Betway odds are worth it, as Birmingham is still marked as the favourite.

Bet on Yorkshire to win.

While Malan is probably the safer bet, it's okay to choose Lyth if you want a higher money return. The odds are really good, and Lyth has shown promise before with his 90* effort. He needs to break out of a batting slump.

    Top Batsman Birmingham: Robert Yates

With Hain out, it's time for Yates to step up, which he can do if he's in the zone. He's scored 40 & 27 in his last to T20 games, but more importantly, he's picked up 204 total runs. Yates will feel like he needs to become the No. 1 batter if Hain can't play due to injury.

    Top Bowler Yorkshire: Ben Mike

He's got better odds than Thompson, and Mike has had good matches recently of 2/37, with 13 wickets for the season. If the Birmingham batters aren't up to scratch, especially with Hain out, this is a golden chance for Mike to be the best bowler for Yorkshire.
