YOR vs LEI Match Prediction - Jun 16, 2023

Yorkshire really is the hottest team in the T20 Blast league right now, as they’ve won five straight games and are currently 5-3. Despite this, they’re only third in the North Group, but a win over Leicestershire could volt them to the top. Conversely, Leicestershire is 2-6 and is desperate for a victory, but the team has won two out of the last three games.

Yorkshire vs. Leicestershire will take place at Headingley, Leeds, on June 16th. All the latest cricket betting tips can be found here.

YOR vs LEI Team Previews

Yorkshire

Dawid Malan is indisputably the biggest reason that Yorkshire has been so strong in recent weeks. He’s the third-leading scorer in the league with 409 runs and has a very respectable strike rate of 155.51. Malan has scored above 70 in four of his last five games, and while it is odd to see one game with just two runs, other players stepped up to bat.

Even though he’s only played in two innings, one batsman to watch is certainly James Wharton, who has already picked up 26 & 111*. If he keeps this up and Malan continues to shine, then everyone else in the squad just needs to deliver in the 20s and Yorkshire will be alright.

For whatever reason, Jordan Thompson has just found his groove and is bowling impeccably well. He’d been fairly solid but unspectacular for a while, but suddenly shot up to 15 wickets thanks to two great performances of 5/21 and then 4/34. Thompson needs to keep doing whatever routine he made on those two days! He’s giving up too many runs at 295, but there’s hope if he can continue this form.

It’s worth keeping an eye on Mike (10 wickets) and Wiese (9 wickets), as Yorkshire will need at least three bowlers to continually bowl great if they’ll want any chance of winning the title.

Yorkshire Playing 11

Adam Lyth, Dawid Malan, James Wharton, Shan Masood, Matthew Revis, Jordan Thompson, David Wiese, Jonathan Tattersall, Ben Mike, Dom Bess, Jafer Chohan.

Leicestershire

Leicestershire will find it hard to reach the knockout round, but you never know with this league. At last place in the North Group, it’s going to be tough, but a win here is a good start.

The squad does have a secret weapon with Rishi Patel’s brilliant batting right now, as he’s scoring at a quick rate (282 total runs) and even picked up a great 104 in a victory over Durham. Unfortunately, there’s a big gap between Patel and the next-best players, which does explain Leicestershire’s last place. Welch (137), Ackermann (134), and Hill (123) are all decent batters, but nowhere near good enough to carry the team to victory. There’s just too much pressure on Patel at the moment.

Taking wickets is also a problem affecting the team, as you know it’s a bad sign when the highest is Parkinson with 10 and then Hull with 6. For the most part, teams are walking all over Leicestershire, as there doesn’t appear to be anyone to trouble opposing batters. Any game that Leicestershire does win feels more due to the batters, rather than brilliant bowling.

Leicestershire Playing 11

Nick Welch, Harry Swindells, Rishi Patel, Colin Ackermann, Louis Kimber, Wiaan Mulder, Rehan Ahmed, MIchael Finan, Naveen ul Haq, Callum Parkinson, Josh Hull.

YOR vs LEI Toss Prediction

Batting first is certainly the preferred option if winning the toss. Any captain should look at the history, as out of 60 games, the team batting first has won 37 times.

Pitch and Conditions

Headingley is one of the best cricket pitches for a balanced game. Batters will find good bounce and won’t be troubled too much by spin. Pace bowlers can struggle at times, but the pitch can be used to their advantage if familiar with the movement and speed.

YOR vs LEI Betting Tips

Despite the odds for Leicestershire being quite appealing, we can’t ignore the fantastic cricket lately from Yorkshire. We just don’t believe that Leicestershire has enough talent to defeat Yorkshire, especially as Patel is expected to do too much and there is enough bowling to trouble the likes of Malan and Wharton from Yorkshire.

Plus, Yorkshire already played against Leicestershire this season and won by 30 runs.

Bet on Yorkshire to win.

He doesn't have so much T20 experience this season, but Wharton is looking at ease and is ready to contribute right away. He already has 26 & 111* in his first two games and can certainly pick up more. As the odds for Malan are barely worth it, it's a good idea to bet on Wharton in case he does step up in this game.

Both Patel and Wharton have earned centuries this season, so it's not unreasonable that they could do it again. Amazingly, Malan hasn't had a century yet, even though he's been close with 95. If anyone could do it in this game, then it's him.

    Yorkshire Top Bowler: Jordan Thompson

There doesn't seem to be a better option here, and as Thompson is on a great streak right now, it's a good time to get on the bandwagon. He's picked up 9 wickets in his last two matches, and while we don't expect four or five wickets again, he's likely to be the top bowler against a weaker Leicestershire squad.
