Yorkshire have finally picked up a win to improve their 2023 record to 1-3, after they sneaked in a victory against Nottinghamshire. Lancashire, meanwhile, started out hot with three wins, yet dropped a game to Birmingham to have a 3-1 record.
This matchup, of course, is an interesting repeat of the 2022 semi-finals, in which Lancashire defeated Yorkshire by six wickets. Lancashire would go on to lose the final to Hampshire.

Yorkshire
Despite not the greatest start to the season, Yorkshire has got to feel good that one thing is working out: Dawid Malan’s batting. The star batsman has already totalled 164 runs in four matches and currently averaging 54.66. He was certainly the main reason as to why Yorkshire won over Nottinghamshire, thanks to his tremendous 95 runs from 56 deliveries (8 fours and 4 sixes).
If Yorkshire wants to reach the Finals again, they’ll have to improve the bowling, as it’s only been pacer David Wiese who has shown any promise thanks to his five wickets. Yorkshire was probably hoping for a better performance from Ben Mike, who recently joined the team, but he’s been bowling fairly limited overs and not shining when it’s his turn to bowl.

Lancashire
Lancashire have proven why they were good enough to reach the Final last season, as this 2023 T20 Blast season is picking up where they left off. Batting throughout the entire order is pretty rock solid, but there’s no doubt that Luke Wells, Daryl Mitchell, and Steven Croft are keeping the team afloat. All three are capable of scoring close to 40 in every match, and Mitchell was especially great with 85* in the over Nottinghamshire.
While no bowler was particularly effective in the recent loss to Birmingham, we’ve been especially impressed by fast bowler Luke Wood, who has eight wickets already in four matches. He’s keeping his ER low, and even went to 2.75 in the victory over Leicestershire.

Headingley is a classic cricket pitch that players love to see. Batters get a good, even bounce here and spin is often a bit easier to play. Bowlers have struggled at times here to find some movement, but it’s not unusual for batters to get overconfident and make mistakes here.

Yorkshire doesn’t seem to have reliable Powerplay bowlers nor batters really dependable in the death overs. Lancashire has a fantastic top-order lineup that can be interchangeable, as well as a scary bowling lineup that includes top-notch spinners. Thanks to a deep batting roster and fantastic bowling from Wells, we think Lancashire should take this match if they can remove Malan for a very low score. The Betway odds aren't as good as we'd like, but it's a safer bet with Lancashire being the favourites.

Lancashire has tried a few opening partnerships this season, but the one that is most productive has to be Wells and Salt. Both scored above 30 runs in the last match and appear to be having a good connection together.
