Warriors Women

The Warriors team played the first semi-final of the FairBreak Invitational Tournament earlier today in Kowloon. They played this game against the Spirit team. The Warriors women won the toss and put the opposition into bat. Their bowling attack was right on the money in this game as they bundled out the Spirit women for a score of 73 runs in 17.4 overs. Only a couple of batters from Spirit women managed to reach the double figures in this innings. Kathryn Bryce was adjudged player of the match for her all-around performance in the game.

None of the Spirit batswomen were among runs except Natthakan Chantham who hit 26 runs from 34 balls with 3 fours. Only one other batter from Spirit could reach the double figures in this knockout game. Jess Kerr was the pick of the bowlers for Warriors women as she picked up 3 scalps for just 11 runs from her 2.4 overs. Some other bowlers that supported her were Kathryn Bryce with 2 wickets for 6 runs from her 3 overs and Amanda Jade Wellington who picked up a couple of scalps for 16 runs from her 4 overs.

Other bowlers such as Shamilia Connell and Hayley Matthews were also among the wickets picking up one wicket apiece in the Spirit innings. None of the Warriors' bowlers went for more than 6 runs per over. Although the chase for the 73-run target was pretty straightforward, the Warriors women lost early wickets and were 35 for 4 in 8.1 overs at one stage. But Kathryn Bryce held her nerve to score a quick 26 from 18 balls with 2 fours and 1 six to ensure that the Warriors team capitalized on the super bowling performance and reached the final of the competition.

Falcons Women

The Falcons women were once again in good form in their semi-final appearance against Barmy Army women. They won the toss and asked the Barmy Army women to bat first in the game. The Barmy Army women scored 158 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from their stipulated 20 overs. The Falcons batters were in good nick though and chased this decent total down in 18.1 overs. The pick performer for Falcons women was Chamari Athapaththu. She not only picked a wicket but also scored 78 runs from 50 balls to contribute heavily to the Falcons' win.

The Barmy Army women were off to a bad start in their innings against the Falcons women. They were quickly reduced to 24 for 3 in 4.5 overs due to an initial burst from Marizanne Kapp. But Deandra Dottin once again came to the rescue of the Barmy Army team hitting 42 runs from 29 balls with 3 sixes and 4 fours. Another batter that contributed for the Barmy Army women was Fatima Sana who hit 45 runs in the lower middle order from 30 balls with 6 fours and 1 six. Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers for Falcons women picking up 3 early wickets for just 18 runs from her quota of 4 overs.

Mariko Hill also did a decent job for the Falcons women picking up 3 wickets for 18 runs from her 2 overs. Sornnarin Tippoch was another bowler that did a good job for Falcons with one wicket for just 21 runs from her 3 overs. Although the Falcons women lost an early wicket in the form of Danni Wyatt, they were never really in danger of losing the game. Chamari Athapaththu scored a belligerent 78 from 50 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes to ensure that the run chase did not go haywire. She was aided by some useful contributions in the middle order from Theertha Satish, Marizanne Kapp, and Mariko Hill.
