Although Ireland put up a good fight, it was never a real shock to see the West Indies cruise to victory in this ODI matchup. The West Indies made a great first-innings score of 297 thanks to Matthew’s 109, but Ireland fell short of the target by 58 runs and were bowled out for 239. Gaby Lewis’ 83 was a bright spot nonetheless, and something to build on in the next games.
The second of three ODI matches in the West Indies Women vs. Ireland Women series will be played at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia, on June 28th.

West Indies Women
This series was always going to be about Matthews and Taylor, and it was no surprise to see them create a 156-run partnership from 153 deliveries. Matthews (109) and Taylor (55) certainly helped to steer the ship out of troubled waters, as the West Indies lost three wickets for six runs at one point.
Henry’s 53 runs was another massive boost for the home team, as James’ 13 and Williams’ 3 were major disappointments in this West Indies squad. Matthews and Taylor will undoubtedly be called upon to do the heavy lifting in every game during this series.
Being a very capable allrounder, Matthews once again proved her worth to the team with a strong bowling effort of 3/53. Ireland’s Lewis and Paul are great batters, and it’s never a good idea to let them get into their stride. There will need to be a few improvements for the Windies’ bowling, as Connell (0/25), Alleyne (0/27), and Fraser (0/18) would really hurt the team if it weren’t for Matthews.

Ireland Women
Playing in tough, foreign pitches is never going to be easy for Ireland, so we’re interested to see if they can bounce back. We hoped for more by Paul (10 runs), but it was definitely Lewis (83) who gave Ireland a fighting chance. Prendergast (37) and Delany (40) typically averaged around 25.00 in ODI games, so they certainly over-performed here. Paul should be better in the second game, but Lewis needs to keep up the momentum.
Apart from spinner Murray’s great effort of 3/60 across 10 overs, there wasn’t too much to be excited about for Ireland’s bowling attack. Murray appeared to demolish the middle order, and her spin is looking useful on this pitch. Even though Canning took the big wicket of Matthews, her 1/33 across 8 overs was not quite what we hoped for, but this is her first international ODI match, so there’s room to grow.

Many teams like to bowl first for ODI games, as batting tends to get easier in the later stages of the game. The Windies know the conditions well enough to bat or bowl first, but they make like to switch things up from the first game and bowl if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions
The weather will be humid (95%) and hot like usual (24°C). The pitch is again the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, and even though most teams like to bowl first if winning the toss, the Windies’ chose to bat first in game one. There’s a lot of movement and bounce e in the early overs of the first innings, but batting does get easier later on.

Although the Satbet odds make it tempting to place a bet on Ireland, we’d only recommend a small one. There’s too much in favour for the West Indies, as they’re playing on home soil, are well-rested, won the first game, and clearly have a more talented, experienced squad. The odds aren't as good as you'd like, but it's a safe bet.
The West Indies have defeated Ireland five times in a row in the ODI format, and seeing the form of Matthews, Taylor, and Henry gives us no reason to doubt the team. The bowling attack overall should get better, and the West Indies will demolish Ireland in this second game.

She's had 6 50s in her international ODI career and appears to be in her prime right now. Her 83 runs in the first game proves that she's not afraid of attacking, especially on foreign pitches. She's been playing more T20s lately, but this should help her go for the boundaries and pick up another 50.
Naturally, Matthews is the No.1 batter, but her odds are incredibly low and uninteresting. Taylor's 55 in the first game means that she's in form and it's not impossible that Matthews takes a back seat to let Taylor rule the game. Matthews may be tired from the 109 runs and 3/53 performance in game one. Taylor averages 44.08 in ODI games, so she has what it takes to score the most here.
These are actually very good odds for Murray, as her 3/60 performance was highly impressive. Her spin seems to play well on this pitch and she'll know a few more tricks, so another three wickets is not impossible. She's young but already experienced, having picked up 23 ODI wickets for her career.
Matthews was great in the first game and is arguably the team's top bowler, but her odds are so low that it's barely worth a bet. Fletcher was an important part of the first game with her 2/49 effort, and she will likely keep getting better as the series continues. She's one of the most experienced bowlers in the squad, having picked up 76 wickets across 57 innings.
