WI vs IRE Match Prediction - Oct 21, 2022

West Indies was in a very tough position against Zimbabwe before managing to get over the line thanks to brilliance from Rovman Powell and Alzarri Joseph. It has a straightforward path to Round 2 of the T20 World Cup 2022 now. WIn against Ireland and the West Indies will be through.

In fact, that is also the path for each of the four teams in the group. Zimbabwe, Ireland, West Indies, and Scotland have all won one out of the two matches they have played. The teams that win their second match will qualify.

No net run rate calculations. Winners move on, losers go home.

The cricket betting sites obviously have West Indies as their favorite but the odds have increased. Let us have a closer look.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for West Indies vs Ireland T20 World Cup 2022. The match will be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on the 21st of October 2022.

WI vs IRE Team Previews

West Indies

West Indies has played two matches against teams that do not have great bowling attacks and in both of them, its batting struggled. After going down to the Scots, the West Indians were reduced to 101 for 6 in their match against Zimbabwe.

There was no real spin on offer and there was nothing to suggest that the pitch was misbehaving. Not a single fifty was scored and only four sixes were hit. Kyle Mayers looks to be short of confidence, Evin Lewis is unable to hit the ball off the square, and Nicholas Pooran just keeps making strange shot choices.

This is not a batting lineup that you can rely on right now. Ireland is not the greatest bowling lineup either but we have seen that you don't have to be to put the West Indies in trouble.

Alzarri Joseph was brilliant in the previous match. He bowled with pace and kept on plugging away with wickets. Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, and Akel Hosein are all bowling well but not as well as we have seen them bowl recently.

West Indies Playing 11

Kyle Mayers, Johnson Charles, Evin Lewis, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Odean Smith, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy.

Ireland was under tremendous pressure in the previous match. It was chasing a stiff target, had lost some early wickets, and the required run rate was climbing. Out came, Curtis Campher and George Dockrell to absolutely blow the game wide open and ace the chase.

Campher ended with 72 while Dockrell ended with 39, both not out. While it was encouraging that Lorcan Tucker, Andrew Balbirnie, and Harry Tector also got a few runs, the poor form of Paul Stirling is a massive problem. Stirling was supposed to be the 'X' factor of this lineup with his experience playing around the world in the best T20 leagues but that has not happened.

Despite his lack of form, Ireland has shown that it has a decent batting lineup with more depth than is immediately obvious. It may not have the power that the West Indies does but it is more than capable of scoring runs.

A bit of a concern for Ireland is also going to be about its death bowling. Joshua Little is dangerous up front but apart from him, the rest of the bowling can be taken apart. Just one of the many big hitters in the West Indian lineup needs to come off to make this match one-sided.

Ireland Playing 11

Andy Balbirnie, PR Stirling, Lorcan Tucker, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Joshua Little, Gareth Delany, Simi Singh, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy.

WI vs IRE Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first unless there is rain around. Both teams would like to bat without any pressure and then choke the chase.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for Hobart is quite good and it looks as if we should not have any major interruptions. The pitch at the Bellerive Oval has been a bit two-paced and that is perhaps why players have struggled to take full advantage of the short boundaries.

Still, we think 160-170 should be the least that teams batting first will aim for.

WI vs IRE Betting Tips

We are going to back the West Indies in this match. Their batters have failed two times and they are bound to have one good day sooner rather than later. The amount of power and depth in that lineup can take even the best teams out on their day. Ireland is not going to go down easily. It will fight but in the end, it may not have enough to stay afloat.

Bet on the West Indies to win.

The number of sixes in this edition of the T20 World Cup has been surprisingly low and with so much on the line in this match, we expect the batters to play a bit more cautiously. The odds are quite attractive for this betting market right now.
