WI vs IND Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 20, 2023

India absolutely crushed the West Indies in the first match of the series. It was a bit disappointing to see the West Indies serve up a surface that suited India perfectly. It is always good to see India win but a contest is so much more entertaining.

A close match also means that we get better odds to bet on!

Can we hope for anything different in this match? The venue is Port of Spain, a historic Test venue where the groundsman can be expected to be a bit more proactive and bring the seamers into play. That alone may not be enough for a contest but we can always hope!

West Indies vs India Head to Head

India's dominance over the West Indies in recent times has been complete. They have won the previous five tests by 141 runs, 257 runs, 318 runs, 10 wickets, and 272 runs.

WI vs IND Team Previews

West Indies

West Indies has been spiraling down the cricketing ladder for quite some time now but they always come up with a few performances that make you believe again. It will take something very special for Kraigg Brathwaite and his men to be able to put up a fight against India.

For one thing, West Indies seems to be playing in conditions that favor India a lot more. Even if that changes for this match, the West Indian batting is just so weak that it might not be able to resist the inexperienced Indian bowling either.

Kraigg Brathwaite has now been dismissed to Ashwin six times including twice in the previous Test match. Braithwaite is the best West Indian batter by far and with him under pressure, the rest of the batting looks vulnerable as well.

Alick Athanaze looked impressive and certainly has the ability to score runs but apart from him, we would not put our money on any one of the West Indian batters. In fact, a smart play here could be to bet against the West Indian batters whenever you get the chance.

It looks like Rakheem Cornwall is going to miss out on this match because of injury and may be replaced by Kevin Sinclair or Shannon Gabriel. Alzarri Joseph will lead the attack and can be quite dangerous if there is some help for the fast bowlers or maybe some extra bounce.

India

India was never really challenged in the first Test and must have felt that they were the home team, so friendly were the conditions to them. We expect more of a challenge in this match. India is unlikely to make any changes to its lineup for this match because almost everyone is in need for some game time.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma showed a lot of patience and managed to pick up a century each while Virat Kohli struggled for every run that he made but still managed to reach 76. Ajinkya Rahane, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja make a formidable batting lineup.

For some reason, Gill has not been able to convert his success in the white-ball format to runs in the Test arena as consistently but we would still not bet against him. Jadeja is probably one of the better choices for an over/under bet in this match right now.

He was 37 not out in the previous match and is averaging well over 50 over the two years of Test cricket.

The bowling lineup's strength is obviously spin. Ashwin ripped through the West Indian batting in the previous match and could be the lead bowler for India in this match as well. A bit of boucne and seam will bring in Siraj but don't count Ashwin out.

Overall, India is just too strong for the West indies at this point in time and it will require a real meltdown from India to actually lose this match.

WI vs IND Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first (unless there is a lot of grass on the pitch and some overcast conditinos).

Pitch and Conditions

There has been talk of a bouncier surface being prepared in Port of Spain for this match. The groundsman could end leaving some grass on the surface to negate the Indian spinners. The underlying nature of the surface is such that it should flatten out by Day 2 and then start to spin by Day 4, irrespective of anything else.

There is some rain forecast for the duration of the match and we are likely to see a lot of interruptions.

WI vs IND Betting Tips

India's Test team is well tested and proven in all kinds of conditions. They will not be bothered even if there is some grass on the surface. Sure, the seam attack is a bit inexperienced but the depth in batting as well as the lack of quality in the West Indian lineup, should more than compensate for that.

India should be able to win this match once more.

Bet on India to win.

Jaiswal is a player that has shown a remarkable hunger for runs in his young age. His First Class average is over 82 and he showed he belongs to the top level with a 150+ score on debut. We will continue to back him in this match.

We thought this betting market was too good to pass on. A slow wicket is like kryptonite for Rahane and he failed in the previous match. With more pace likely to be on offer in this one, we can see him finding his groove again. Three boundaries is not that much at all for him.

This is a bit tricky since the new ball can be tough to negotiate for any batter. Still, looking at the form of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, we feel like this is a good market to consider. West Indian batters have been quite out of form and this is another opportunity to bet against him.
