WFW vs LSW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 20, 2023

The Fire appear to be one of the hottest teams in the Women’s Hundred, as it’s hard to ignore four wins out of their last five matches. They are second on the table with a solid 4-1 record and have a great chance to compete for a championship.

It has been a bit hard on the Spirit to have two abandoned games, but since then they’ve lost two and won one. Another win in this game and they may well slowly start to climb the table if the team pulls things together.

Welsh Fire Women vs. London Spirit Women will be played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on August 20th. Take a look at these betting sites if you need more help on finding the best bet.

WFW vs LSW Team Previews

Welsh Fire Women

The Fire lost a very close game to the Brave, so it could have easily been 5 wins in a row for this great squad. Most of the credit must go to Beaumont, who has been excellent with 213 runs and an average of 42.60. More amazing than that, however, is the fact that Beaumont is the first woman to score a century in the Hundred! She had an incredible 118 runs in a victory over the Rockets.

Beaumont has a lot of help from other talented batters, namely Dunkley, who has 127 runs in four games, and is yet to score below 24 runs. Bryce (106) and Elwiss (84) are solid, but we’re concerned about Matthews (88), who has missed the last two games with an injured shoulder. There is no word on her comeback, but hopefully sooner rather than later.

In terms of the bowling, we’re seeing good performances from Shabnim Ismail, who has 9/113 so far, but is extremely consistent. Griffiths and Davies have been great with 5 wickets each, but we’re not impressed with Nicholas, who has bowled 16 overs and managed just 1/108 runs. If she doesn’t pick up her effort, then she needs to bowl less overs.

London Spirit Women

The Spirit had a bad start to the season, but the victory over the Invincibles is a step in the right direction. It’s not exactly the best batting team in the world, let’s be honest, as the squad’s highest scorer is Gibson with 86 runs.

We thought Knight would be batting far more aggressively, but her 65 runs are way lower than she’s capable of hitting. Kerr is fine with 51 runs, but Ghosh has also been unspectacular with 23 runs. Holland has only played two games, but scored 7 runs. Suffice it to say that the Spirit’s batting lineup needs work!

The Spirit did a great job against the Invincibles by bowling exceedingly well, limiting their opponent to just 97 runs in the second innings. Hopefully we can see more of this top-notch bowling, as we’ve been waiting a while to see it. Glenn (6/54) and Dean (4/43) are keeping things competitive, but Kerr (3 wickets) needs to step things up.

WFW vs LSW Toss Prediction

Fast bowlers prefer the Sophia Gardens surface because it has a lot of bounce and swing. It may be a low-scoring game of 150–160 since the outfield isn't as quick as other fields and the new ball will get a lot of swing.

Pitch and Conditions

In the short-over matches played here, choosing whether to bowl first or bat first might be challenging. 31 of the 63 T20 games have been secured by batting first, and 30 by batting second. If they win the toss, teams may still choose to bowl first in order to better evaluate the pitch.

WFW vs LSW Betting Tips

This will be the first time that these teams face other this season, but despite the Satbet odds saying that the Fire are the favourite, we think there is hope for the Spirit. Their odds to win will be highly intriguing, and there’s enough talent on the team to make it possible.

The Spirit had a slow start, but if Gibson can keep hitting major runs and gets help from Knight and Ghosh, then the team can be very difficult to beat. The Spirit bowlers will have a hard time limiting runs from Beaumont and Dunkley, but perhaps they make a bad shot and are dismissed for a low score.

Bet on the London Spirit to win.

The odds for Beaumont and Dunkley are actually pretty similar, so if that's the case, you might as well choose Beaumont. She's batting on another level right now and is fresh from her giant 118 runs. Beaumont has 213 total runs and is averaging 42.60, so it's a safe bet that she can score big again.

Gibson and Kerr are both batting really well, but the odds for Gibson are just a bit more interesting. Gibson has 110 runs this season and is averaging a solid 27.50, so she's likely to lead her team as she's been doing done all year.

Welsh Fire Women Top Bowler: Freya Davies

Shabnim Ismail is not a bad option, but if you want some better odds, then go with Davies. She's been reliable this season and has 5 total wickets, but you get the feeling she can do more when given the chance. If she can get 3 wickets, then she can be the top bowler for sure.
