Vancouver Knights

The Vancouver Knights played their last match in the competition against Surrey Jaguars on 4th August. This Qualifier 1 was played at the same venue as CAA Center in Brampton, Ontario. The Surrey Jaguars side batted first in this game and put together a score of 139 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In reply to this modest target, the Vancouver batsmen made a mess of the chase and were bowled out for a score of 101 runs. The entire Vancouver team was bowled out in 16.4 overs. Matthew Forde from Surrey was adjudged Player of the Match for his haul of 4 for 16 during the Vancouver innings.

The Surrey Jaguars team made a reasonable start to their innings. All their top-order batters such as Mohammad Haris, Jatinder Singh, and Litton Das contributed to the score. But none of them could play big innings. It was left to Iftekhar Ahmed and Ayaan Khan to take the score to respectability. Junaid Siddique was the most successful bowler for the Knights picking up 4 victims for just 22 runs from his 4 overs. He was helped on the way by Ruben Trumplemann and Karthik Meiyappan who picked up 2 wickets each.

The Vancouver Knights got off to a disastrous start during the chase and they lost wickets in a heap. The lower middle order batters such as Najibullah Zadran and Fabien Allen tried to rescue the innings but it was already too late for them to recover the innings. Finally, the whole team was bowled out for a score of 101 runs. Fabien Allen was the top scorer for the Vancouver Knights picking up 27 runs from 20 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Matthew Forde was the destroyer-in-chief for Jaguars picking up 4 wickets for 16 runs.

Montreal Tigers

As far as the points table for the league stages of the competition is concerned, these two teams ended up in number 2 and number 3 positions in the tally. Both teams have identical 9 points from 7 matches. Vancouver had a better net run rate and as a result, was ranked higher in the table. Unlike Vancouver, Montreal Tigers won their last match against Brampton Wolves. Batting first, Brampton Wolves could manage a score of 104 runs all out from their quota of 20 overs. The Montreal Tigers team chased this target easily in 14.1 overs with 9 wickets to spare.

The Tigers made short work of the Brampton Wolves' score and reached the target with 34 balls to spare. Chris Lynn was declared Player of the Match for 63 not out from 47 balls. The Brampton Wolves team got off to a reasonable start with most of the top order of the team contributing to the score. But none of them played big innings that could have been the foundation for a large total. Aaron Johnson was the top scorer for the Wolves with 31 runs from 25 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. 

The bowling honors were shared among the Montreal Tigers team. Carlos Brathwaite and Aayan Afzal Khan picked up 2 wickets each for Montreal giving away 20 and 16 runs away respectively from their quota of 4 overs. Abbas Afridi and Dipendra Singh Airee picked up a wicket apiece. The Montreal reply was based around their skipper Chris Lynn who hit 63 runs from 47 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Muhammad Waseem and Srimantha Wijeyeratne provided the necessary support to Lynn as the team reached the target on a canter.
