Tasmania

Tasmania played their last game against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield. They managed to secure a draw despite a late charge by Western Australia. The WACA wicket was lifeless and just 18 wickets fell in the first 10 sessions of the match. But the game suddenly came to life on day 4 when the Western Australia bowling attack came to life to tear through the Tasmanian batting line-up. The Tasmanian team wobbled on the last day of the game and at one stage were 70 for 5 in the final session. But Brad Hope and Beau Webster hung on to take the team to safety.

Tasmania made a good start to their campaign with a score of 439 runs all out in their first inning. But Western Australia replied with a big total of 574 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their inning. They declared the inning and their bowlers promptly attacked the Tasmanian batters to cause a bit of a flutter in their camp. In the end, Tasmania held on to a draw. Tasmania managed to raise a good total in their first inning thanks mainly to the efforts of their skipper Jordon Silk. Silk scored 181 runs from 349 balls with 19 fours.

Silk was well supported by Matthew Wade and Beau Webster who struck the fifties. The Tasmania bowlers could not make much impression on the Western Australia opening batters as they raised 227 runs for the first wicket. Gabe Bell was the only bowler who looked like getting wickets for Tasmania. Bell picked up 3 wickets from 33 overs for 80 runs. Jarrod Freeman also picked up 2 wickets for 131 runs while Beau Webster, Bradley Hope, and Mitchell Owen picked up a wicket apiece.

Queensland

During their last game in the competition against Victoria, the Queensland spinner Mitchell Swepson managed to snare career-best figures of 5 for 39 to hand the Victorian team back-to-back innings defeats in their campaign for Sheffield Shield. We reached the final day in the competition with Victoria in dire straits with a score of 104 for 7 with the team needing further 144 runs to make Tasmania bat again. The overnight batters took the score to 144 but Tasmania picked up 3 wickets in a row without an addition to the total to register an easy win.

Victoria batted first in their last game against Queensland. This was the 4th game of the Sheffield Shield and was played from 14th October onwards. Victoria scored 253 runs in their first inning. The Queensland team was in great form scoring 501 runs for the loss of 9 wickets before their skipper announced a declaration. The Queensland bowlers were right on the money in their reply when they bowled out Victoria for 144 runs in their second inning. The Queensland batter Matt Renshaw was adjudged player of the match for his hundred in the Queensland inning. You can bet on Renshaw to score more runs in this match.

Gurinder Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers for Queensland in their first inning picking up 3 wickets for 68 runs from his 20 overs. But all the Queensland bowlers were able to hunt in a pack to dismiss the Victorian team for a modest total. The Queensland batters made a terrific start to their inning with Matt Renshaw hitting 135 runs from 262 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Jack Clayton also scored a hundred from 203 balls with 11 fours. Michael Neser smashed a 90 lower down the order from 113 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. Mitchell Swepson was the pick of the Tasmanian bowling in the Victorian second inning with a fifer for 39 runs. Swepson can be expected to inflict more damage in this game as well.
