TKR vs SNP Team Previews

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders squad includes several West Indian cricketers with plenty of international experience, including all-rounders Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell. They also have spinner Sunil Narine, who continues to globetrot the T20 circuit with reasonable success.

Narine wasn't necessarily prolific for TKR last season, but did finish among the 2022 CPL's top 10 wicket-takers with 11 in 10 matches. His performance is bound to be key with the ball - and perhaps even the bat - as Trinbago chase victory in this match and eventually a fifth CPL title.

TKR are arguably relatively light on international recruits this season. They have New Zealand batter Martin Guptill, who is probably past his prime, and South African batter Rilee Rossouw, who is nursing an injury. Bowling-wise, there's Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad and Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.

Trinbago Knight Riders Playing 11

Martin Guptill, Chadwick Walton, Mark Deyal, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, Kadeem Alleyne.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The recruitment of Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu is a massive boost for STKNP's pursuit of another CPL title. Rayudu has won the Indian Premier League title with the Chennai Super Kings. He skipped Major League Cricket in the United States of America recently, so should be quite fresh for the CPL.

Rayudu played six years of international cricket and can add plenty of value to a Patriots batting order that has been weakened by the exits of South African duo Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis. They have been called up by the Proteas to face Australia.

Opener Andre Fletcher was STKNP's top batsman last CPL season with 229 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 106. He is back this season and will have plenty of responsibilty on his shoulders. The Patriots need someone else to step up with the ball after Bravo exited after two seasons to return to Trinbago. Opportunity knocks for fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell to really lead the bowling attack here.

TKR vs SNP Toss Prediction

Five of the last eight CPL matches in Gros Islet were won by the team batting second. In the opening match of the 2023 CPL, St Lucia Kings won the toss, chose to bowl first and lost the match by 11 runs. That result might tempt the toss-winning captain to bat first in this match, but generally the theme has been to bowl first and chase later.

Pitch and Conditions

In the opening match of the 2023 CPL, Jamaica Tallawahs posted a final total of 187 all out in 20 overs. St Lucia Kings deployed eight overs of spin. Seam worked well, while outright pace proved costly. In reply, Jamaica used 10 overs of spin to throttle the Kings' chase. The pitch proved slower as the contest went on. Plenty of rain is predicted in St Lucia on matchday. We could be in for a shortened fixture.

TKR vs SNP Betting Tips

The Trinbago Knight Riders should win this match. They are four-time Caribbean Premier League champions for good reason. An early victory could set a solid precedent for the rest of their campaign. Bravo will want to perform well against his old team. The Knight Riders are eager to avenge 2022's defeat to the Patriots. This all adds up to TKR's odds of 1.62 to win the match being a strong option. If you want to bet on the underdogs, St Kitts and Nevis are priced at 2.30 to win.

Bravo's 10 wickets in the 2022 CPL were almost more than double any other Patriots' bowler. He has since returned to Trinbago. Bravo has 615 wickets in professional T20 cricket - more than anyone else in the history of the format.

Sheldon Cottrell to be top St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bowler

Cottrell's economy rate of 7.81 was the best among St Kitts and Nevis Patriots who played six or more matches last CPL season. He was also among their top wicket-takers last year. This ability to couple economy with breakthroughs makes Cottrell a serious threat this season.
