TKR vs SLK Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 11, 2023

Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings will play the 24th match of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League. The Knight Riders and Kings currently occupy first and third position, respectively, in the CPL's six-team standings. Their race for a berth in the play-off stage of the tournament continues.

Trinbago are the most successful team in the history of the CPL with four titles. St Lucia have been runners-up twice, but never won the tournament. There will be plenty of local and international talent on display here. Let's see what the betting odds and markets have in store.

Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Lucia Kings head-to-head record

St Lucia have won three of their last five meetings with Trinbago. This record includes two successive victories across last season's final meeting and this season's first. Four of the last five results between these teams have been won by the team batting first.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago have four wins to show for their last five matches in the 2023 CPL. Their most recent success was against reigning champions Jamaica Tallawahs a mere 24 hours prior to this fixture with the Kings. It's a quick turnaround and will demand more of the same characteristic focus from the Knight Riders.

Fast bowler Ali Khan impressed in the win over the Tallawahs. Khan took three wickets after entering the attack as a fourth-change bowler. The decision to deploy him late reaped solid reward as the USA fast bowler ripped through the opposition middle order. Trinbago will likely look to utilise his pace and accuracy in similar fashion this time.

The Knight Riders again went without all-rounder Dwayne Bravo against Jamaica. They have missed him for a couple of matches now. The fact that Trinbago are winning without the most prolific wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket is telling of their bowling depth.

Batting-wise, New Zealand's Martin Guptill and West Indian star Nicholas Pooran continue to spearhead the Knight Riders' quest for big totals and successful chases. They have each hit a century this season and, earlier this week, complemented those three-figure innings with match-winning half-centuries against the Tallawahs.

St Lucia Kings

St Lucia have had to weather a rather stop-start CPL campaign recently. Their last five fixtures have yielded two wins, two no-results and a defeat. If the Kings beat Trinbago, they will move to second position in the points table. If they lose, they will be close to slipping into the bottom half of the standings.

The Kings' most recent result was defeat to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. St Lucia, indeed, became the first team to lose to the Patriots this season. They will be keen to bounce back from that unwanted statistic quickly, but will be hard pressed against the table-topping Knight Riders.

St Lucia will continue to navigate their 2023 campaign without South African batsman Faf du Plessis, who withdrew due to injury. Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has taken over the captaincy, but must be empowered rather than limited by the additional responsibility. His roles with bat and ball are key.

Intriguingly, the Kings used just one seamer in their recent match with St Kitts and Nevis. They deployed all of five spinners. It's highly improbably they will attempt this tactic again and we'll likely see significant changes to the bowling attack. The addition of a second seamer is on the cards.

TKR vs SLK Toss Prediction

The first two matches of the Tarouba leg of this season's CPL saw teams opt to bowl first after winning the toss. On both occasions, this choice brought victory.

It's a similar trend to what we saw in the 2022 CPL and at other venues this season. Teams generally like to chase rather than set targets. They can pace the pursuit accordingly.

Pitch and Conditions

First-innings totals of 149 and 154 in Tarouba have not been enough so far this CPL. A total of 170-plus should be competitive and conditions will likely get slower as the contest progresses.

Fielding two specialist spinners - and opening the bowling with one of them - is worthwhile at the Brian Lara Stadium. The weather forecast suggests clear skies and no rain. We should get a full fixture in here.

TKR vs SLK Betting Tips

Trinbago look the best placed for victory here. Momentum counts for a lot in this short format of the game. The Knight Riders evidently have more of it than the Kings at the moment.

The Knight Riders are priced as favourites at 1.67. St Lucia are the underdogs at 2.20. Backing Trinbago to win the match is the wiser, if more conservative, option here.

Pooran has been in fine form this season. He has hit a century and half-ton in his last two innings, averaging 156. He is a good pick to score another half-century here.

Ali Khan to be the top bowler in the match

Khan is not just a seamer, but a genuine fast bowler. His additional pace has the ability to counter sluggish conditions. He has taken six wickets in his last three matches. Khan might only need half that number to be the top wicket-taker in this match overall.

Trinbago's batting order is lined with big-hitters - from Guptill and Pooran to Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and more. The odds are short, but it's well worth betting on the Knight Riders to hit more sixes than the Kings in this match.
