TKR vs JT Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 10, 2023

Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs will play the 22nd match of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League. The Knight Riders and Tallawahs currently occupy second and fifth position, respectively, in this season's CPL six-team standings.

Trinbago are the most successful team in the history of the tournament with four titles. Jamaica are the reigning champions. This will be a battle of the favourites, who continue to jostle for position ahead of the play-off stage of the competition.

Trinbago Knight Riders vs Jamaica Tallawahs head-to-head record

Trinbago have beaten Jamaica in four of their last five meetings. That's a dominant recent record. They met earlier this season, when the Knight Riders won as well.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago have four matches in this season's CPL so far. Those four have come from their last five matches, so they have plenty of momentum going into this fixture. A win here would put them ahead of Guyana Amazon Warriors in first position on the points table.

The Knight Riders have three of the five leading run-scorers in the 2023 CPL so far. New Zealand recruit Martin Guptill and West Indian talent Nicholas Pooran are in first and second position, respectively, while captain Kieron Pollard is in fifth position. This really exemplifies their strength among the batting department.

Pooran will go into this match on the back of an explosive century against Barbados Royals, while Guptill is the second of only three men to hit a CPL century this year.

Bowling-wise, the Knight Riders have primed a well-balance attack. Seamer Andre Russell and spinners Sunil Narine and Waqar Salamkheil are among the top 10 wicket-takers this CPL season. Afghanistan signing Salamkheil continues to prove a worthy partner to the experienced Narine. They have shared 15 wickets to Russell's 11.

Jamaica Tallawahs

Jamaica have just one win to show for their last five matches. They have lost three in a row and, while this match's opposition have plenty of momentum, the Tallawahs have little to none. The reigning champions face a tough task in rectifying a failing title defence.

A win here won't push them into the top half of the points table, but could be just the spark to get their campaign back on track. They must dig deeper and rediscover some of the fight and character that took them all the way to the title last year.

Jamaica have not played since 3 September, when they lost to Trinbago. That's a full week without a match and they might be ring rusty. That said, they have several big-name players ready to fire on cue against old rivals Trinbago.

Opener and captain Brandon King was the leading run-scorer across the entire CPL last season and held the same position at the start of this year's tournament. But some promising form has fallen away. Others such as wicketkeeper-batter Shamarah Brooks and all-rounder Imad Wasim will need to be ready to step up alongside or instead of King.

Despite Jamaica's collective failings recently, Pakistan pair Mohammad Amir and Salman Irshad are arguably the best seam pair in the tournament. They have been deployed sparingly in tandem, as Jamaica have a string of excellent spinners, but this could be the Tallawahs' opportunity to unleash them together. Amir and Irshad have each taken nine wickets in five matches this season, averaging almost two wickets per appearance. They are the joint third-highest wicket-takers in the 2023 CPL overall.

TKR vs JT Toss Prediction

From Gros Islet and Basseterre to Bridgetown and Port of Spain, the 2023 CPL has yielded an obvious trend of toss-winning captains opting to bowl first. The same is probable in Tarouba before the tournament moves to Providence.

Tarouba was the host for four CPL matches in 2022. In three of those, teams chose to bowl first. The one team that didn't was Jamaica. Their decision to bat first resulted in defeat.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

Last year's CPL matches in Tarouba are a good indicator how the pitch might play this time. First-innings scores ranged from 106 to 189 then and, this time, totals of 160-plus should be competitive.

This will only be the second match in Tarouba this season. The pitch should be fresh and have plenty of runs available in it. Bowling-wise, there remains good evidence for teams to field at least two specialist spinners.

The weather forecast suggests clear skies at the Brian Lara Stadium on match day. The temperature is expected to be in the mid-30 degrees Celsisus and humidity levels as high as 60-plus percent.

TKR vs JT Betting Tips

Trinbago are looking in the best place to win this match. A win here would make it five from their last six matches and push them to the top of the points table. Jamaica will likely collect a fourth defeat in a row.

The Knight Riders are priced as favourites at 1.61. You can also bet on the Tallawahs as underdogs at 2.50 - this could bring bigger value.

Andre Russell to be top Trinbago Knight Riders bowler

Russell is Trinbago's leading wicket-taker this CPL season. He has the opportunity to be their top bowler in this match, too, especially if fellow seamer Pollard doesn't bowl again and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo does not return to the XI for this fixture.

Imad Wasim to be top Jamaica Tallawahs batter

Jamaica have Wasim primarily for his bowling skills, but he is a good batter as well. Wasim's last three scores in the CPL have been 63, 33 and 19 not out. If King fails again, Wasim could be a good pick as Jamaica's top batter here.

There have been three centurions this CPL season. Two of them will likely be involved in this match. The pitch is relatively fresh and better for batting in the first innings than the second. We might see the 2023 CPL's fourth centurion this week.
