Trinbago Knight Riders
Trinbago had won three matches in a row prior to this week's defeat to the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The turnaround time between that loss and this fixture with the Royals is brief. The Knight Riders need a prompt response if they are going to keep their push for a play-off berth alive.
Irish wicketkeeper-batsman Lorcan Tucker is proving a handy asset for Trinbago, but they could do with more from him. Tucker has been solid enough behind the stumps and, with the bat, has put together a series of 30-plus scores. This could be his cue to convert to, at least, 50 or beyond.
The Knight Riders might want to rethink their decision to bat all-rounders Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard as low as sixth and seventh position, respectively, against Guyana. Big-hitters of their explosive nature generally need to be afforded more time at the crease.
Bowling-wise, Russell has been in fine form. His brace against the Amazon Warriors didn't bring victory, but did push him to the top of this CPL season's wicket-taking ranks. Russell has taken 10 wickets in the 2023 tournament with a mix of outright pace and clever slower deliveries.
Afghanistan recruit Waqar Salamkheil and local duo Akeal Hosein and Sunil Narine continue to lead Trinbago's spin-bowling resources. The three spinners have shared 14 wickets this CPL season.
Trinbago Knight Riders Playing 11
Martin Guptill, Mark Deyal, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, Ali Khan, Lorcan Tucker, Waqar Salamkheil.
Barbados Royals
Barbados' recent pattern of winning, then losing, continued against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Royals won that match relatively comfortably, but have struggled to string together successive victories this season. They will certainly be on a mission to break this theme against Trinbago.
Opener Rahkeem Cornwall was outstanding during the win over the Royals. He struck a brisk 102 not out from 48 deliveries as Barbados successfully pursued a staunch 221-run target with 11 deliveries to spare. Cornwall also took two wickets in the match for a sterling all-round performance. He has plenty of momentum with bat and ball going into this clash with Trinbago.
The addition of all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite to the Royals' XI against the Patriots didn't bring much value. He proved expensive with the ball and was not required with the bat. The former West Indies captain should get another go here, regardless.
The Royals opened the bowling with spinner Roelof van der Merwe against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Other teams such as Jamaica Tallawahs have tried this ploy this season. It will be interesting to see if Barbados do this again, if new conditions are suitable for this tactic.
Barbados Royals Playing 11
Rovman Powell, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, Rahkeem Cornwall, RE Van Der Merwe, Qais Ahmad, Laurie Evans, Alick Athanaze, Nyeem Young, Rivaldo Clarke.
TKR vs BR Toss Prediction
Three of last season's four CPL matches in Port of Spain were won by the team batting second. The same happened in the first match of this season. The toss-winning captain at the Queen's Park Oval will again likely opt to bowl first and chase a target later.
Intriguingly, the last 10 matches of the CPL - played across Basseterre, Bridgetown and Port of Spain - have yielded and even split of five wins each for teams batting first and second. This is another element for the captains to consider at the flip of the coin this time.

Pitch and Conditions
During the 2022 CPL, teams only managed totals ranging between 130 and 150 in Port of Spain. This venue will only host two CPL matches in 2023. In this year's first match at Queen's Park Oval, Trinbago's first-innings total was 172. Guyana surpassed it with five deliveries to spare.
It can be worth playing three specialist spinners here. Trinbago did just that - and Guyana played two - here earlier this week. Weather-wise, the forecast suggests rain in Port of Spain a day before the match. The wet conditions should clear for matchday. Humidity levels will be characteristically high.
TKR vs BR Betting Tips
Even if they haven't won two matches in a row over an extended period, Barbados have the momentum that Trinbago don't. The Royals will be confident on the back of recent victory over the Patriots, while the Knight Riders could still be smarting from defeat to Guyana.
Choosing the Royals to collect a third win in their last four matches against the Trinbago is a good prospect. The Royals are priced as underdogs at 2.20. The Knight Riders, who are the most successful team in the history of the CPL with four titles, are priced as match favourites at 1.66.
Bonus Cricket Bets
All-rounders are largely good options in player of the match markets. Russell is a world-class T20 all-rounder and has been in good form with bat and ball.
Pollard is the Trinbago captain and has been leading from the front with the bat. He is the third-highest run-scorer in the CPL this season. He might push himself up the order this time.
Cornwall made headlines for his century recently, but don't forget his role with the ball. He can be under-rated as a spinner. Cornwall took an important two wickets against the Patriots in Bridgetown and conditions in Port of Spain could suit him, too.
