SYT vs MLR Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

The Sydney Thunder have had an extremely poor run so far this season. With just 1 win in 9 matches, the team is firmly placed at the bottom of the points table, and given their poor NRR, are likely to end with the wooden spoon even if they win here.

The team faced its 5th consecutive defeat of the season on Sunday as they were defeated by the Adelaide Strikers by 9 wickets. David Warner, who has joined the squad since the last couple of matches, has failed to turn around his team’s fortunes.

He is likely to open the batting alongside Alex Hales. The latter has scored 258 runs so far and is the leading run-scorer for his team. Cameron Bancroft is another quality player upon whom Thunder will rely to play a big inning.

The form of Alex Ross, Oliver Davies, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Matthew Gilkes has been underwhelming, to say the least. Coming to the bowling, Daniel Sams has done well to pick up 12 wickets but has received little support from the other end.

Nathan McAndrew and Liam Hatcher have both struggled to pick up wickets. Similarly, Tanveer Sangha has lacked consistency in the spin department.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades have endured a forgettable outing this season. With just 2 wins in 9 matches, they have already been knocked out of the tournament and will have just pride to play for.

Jake Fraser-McGurk has been the most consistent batsman for the Renegades this season. He has scored 257 runs so far at a strike rate of 158.64. Shaun Marsh, who will be playing the last match of his BBL career, has been equally impressive, scoring 3 half-centuries in his 5 innings.

However, they have received little support from the other batsmen. Jonathan Wells, Jordan Cox, and Will Sutherland have got some good starts but the team will need at least one of them to play a big inning in this match.

The story continues with the bowling. Kane Richardson and Tom Rogers have played a couple of good spells but have been quite expensive, giving away close to 9 runs per over.

Akeal Hosein, who has joined the team as a specialist spinner, was impressive, picking up 2 wickets in the Melbourne Derby, picking up 2 wickets. He will be expected to bowl a similar spell in this match.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Sydney Showground Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on. The seamers will be able to generate a good amount and pace and movement with the new ball, making life difficult for the batsmen. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 140. The spinners can expect some help throughout the match.

The weather in Sydney is likely to remain overcast and there are high chances of rainfall. We may even see a rain-shortened match.

SYT vs MLR Betting Tips

The Renegades and Thunder are two of the worst-performing teams this season. Looking at the way both teams are playing, it is difficult to pick a clear winner. However, we think that Renegades might have a slight edge in this contest as they have a better balance in their squad.
