Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers have lost just 2 of the 8 matches played so far. However, with 2 of their matches getting washed out, including the earlier Derby, they are a bit precariously placed in the 3rd spot. While a win here will guarantee them a place in the playoffs, a loss would mean that they might face a must-win scenario against the Perth Scorchers in their final group-stage match.

A lot of hope will be pinned on the opening pair of James Vince and Josh Philippe. The duo has given the team some good starts this season and will hope to do the same in this match. Vince in particular seems to be peaking in form just at the right time and is the leading run-scorer for the team.

Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk will be the key batsmen in the middle order, especially as the form of Moises Henriques, Tom Curran, and Jack Edwards has been rather inconsistent. Coming to the bowling, the seam attack is one of the strengths of the team.

Ben Dwarshuis, Jackson Bird, and Edwards have picked up 8 wickets each, while Sean Abbott has 5. The spin department hasn’t fared that well as Steve OKeefe has managed to pick just 3 wickets in 6 matches. 

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder have managed to win just 1 of the 7 matches so far and are placed 7th on the table. While a win in each of its 3 upcoming matches gives the team a mathematical chance of qualifying, a loss will mean that they will be officially knocked out.

Despite having a strong batting unit, the Thunder have failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. Cameron Bancroft is the leading run-getter for the team with 214 runs.

While Alex Hales, Oliver Davies, and Alex Ross have played some good innings, they have been rather inconsistent in their performances. Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who is known for his hard-hitting skills, too has failed to live up to the expectations.

In the bowling department, barring Daniel Sams, none of the bowlers have managed to make much of an impact on the opposition batting. Sams has picked up 11 wickets but has received little support from fellow seamers Gurinder Sandhu and Nathan McAndrew.

Tanveer Sangha started well but he has fizzled out in the last couple of weeks. Sydney Thunder will need an inspiring performance from at least a couple of players if they want to turn things around.
