SYD vs PER Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 15, 2023
This is undoubtedly one of the biggest games of the BBL season, as the first-placed Scorchers will face the second-placed Sixers in a thrilling matchup. The good news for Perth is that bowler Jason Behrendorff is back from his one-game absence. However, Sixers fans are rejoicing that both Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon can help for a few games!
SYD vs PER Team Previews
Sydney Sixers
The Sixers have been playing well with two wins in a row and 13 total points, but this will be their biggest trial against Perth. The return of Smith and Lyon is not to be understated, as these are two of the best cricketers in Australia right now. Smith can help with batting right away and Lyon’s spin will be useful.
There’s also Jordan Silk for the Scorchers to worry about, as he’s already scored 256 runs (with 25 fours) and picked up 59* against the Thunder recently. Josh Philippe (176 runs) and Moises Henriques (166) will both help the Sixers if Silk or Smith doesn’t dominate.
There’s a lot of good bowling here, too, as Sean Abbott’s 16 wickets have helped the Sixers climb the ladder. Abbott has been unstoppable lately, with 3/9 and 3/31 in his last two matches. It’s unlikely he’ll keep getting three wickets in every match, but it’s a great sign that he’s in form.
Sydney Sixers Playing 11
Josh Philippe, Steven Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Hayden Kerr, Daniel Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Nathan Lyon, Steve O'Keefe.
Perth Scorchers
Perth’s 8-2 record isn’t by luck, as their four wins in the last five matches prove just how strong this team is right now. A lot of the success must be attributed to the batting prowess of Josh Inglis (313 runs) and his 28 fours and 13 sixes.
The Scorchers just seem to have an infinite amount of outstanding batters at their disposal, including the likes of Hardie (278), Turner (217), and Bancroft (185) especially, who scored 55* and 76* in recent matches. It seems unfair to have so many great batsmen on one team!
The bowling is equally incredible for Perth, as Andrew Tye continues to shine with 20 wickets (3/27 against the Thunder), but there are also fantastic contributions from Behrendorff (15 wickets). Then there’s Lance Morris to worry about, who spent some time in the Aussie Test squad recently.
Perth Scorchers Playing 11
Stephen Eskinazi, Cameron Bancroft, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, David Payne, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou.
SYD vs PER Toss Prediction
The Scorchers are pretty unbeatable whether batting or bowling first, but they may look to bat first if winning the toss to make use of the pitch.

Pitch and Conditions
Batters always have a great time at the SCG and we’re likely to see a high-scoring match with these batters on the rosters. The bounce tends to be more predictable, which helps the batsmen.
SYD vs PER Betting Tips
It feels like a bit of a coin flip for this game. The Sixers have slightly improved betting odds, but really not by much. Both teams certainly have the chance to win, but we feel like a safer bet is on Perth right now.
The Sixers can certainly win with Smith and Lyon on the roster, but as they haven’t played in the BBL for some time, we’d like to see them first before putting money on them.
Perth is so strong right now with great batters and bowlers throughout the roster, plus, the Scorchers have won the last five games against Sydney and have a 16-9 record overall.
Bet on Perth to win.
