It’s probably not the most exciting matchup in the T20 blast, especially as both teams have no chance of reaching the quarter-finals, but the teams can stay play for pride.
Sussex will have a tough game against Kent, but after that, the level should be somewhat more even against Gloucestershire. Both Sussex (5-7) and Gloucestershire (4-8) are dwelling at the bottom of the South Group table and will already be thinking of ways to improve for next season.

Sussex
Despite winning three of their last five games and playing significantly better lately, Sussex's current 5-7 record will not allow them to advance to the knockout phase. Khan (222) and Clark (247) have both had some excellent performances and helped significantly to the scoring, it should be said. Despite only scoring 15 runs in his previous two matches, Bopara's 288 runs have been vital and at least given the team some hope.
Sussex's bowling has gotten stronger, owing primarily to Mills (13/328) and Khan (11/280), but it's looking to be insufficient with the season coming to a close. The acquisition of Karvelas is interesting since he achieved 8/137 in only five innings (including one outstanding performance of 4/20).

Gloucestershire
It’s been a while since Gloucestershire even played a T20 Blast game, as June 23rd was the last match, in which they lost to Somerset by 4 wickets (3 balls remaining). Gloucestershire has won just one match in their last five games and hasn’t looked remotely threatening this season.
No Gloucestershire batsman could be said to have an outstanding season by any means, as Roelofsen (219), Hammond (225), and Charlesworth (259) are the top scorers. Indeed, Charlesworth seems to have scored most of his runs at the start of the season, as he’s had three ducks in his last five games and is in bad form. Hammond is never one to bet on, as he’s very unpredictable with 92 against Yorkshire but 26 runs combined in the four matches before that.
Spinner Smith (15/278) and pace bowler Payne (13/331) have performed well enough and done their part, at least, and are roughly in the middle of the list compared to other bowlers in the league. Smith has looked better recently with seven wickets out of three games, while Payne is heading in the other direction unfortunately, with just three wickets in his last five matches.

SUS vs GLO Toss Prediction
Teams batting second prevailed on 26/55 occasions, although bowling first seems to be the current tendency. Batting second will be beneficial since the bowlers would have a little bit more swing to deal with.

Pitch and Conditions
Although the County Ground surface is very balanced, bowlers will experience a lot of springiness and turn with the new ball in the opening innings. The swing can also benefit from the sea air. Historically, getting to bat second has been a popular option.

Since neither team has shown a valiant effort in the 2023 T20 Blast, we say go with the underdog and bet on Gloucestershire. It could be that the teams either play with little spirit or simply go out and have fun – it’s hard to tell. Still, the Betway odds are better for Gloucestershire and they aren’t too far behind Sussex in terms of talent or points.
Roelofsen, Hammond, or Charlesworth could find themselves with a career-best performance, and bowlers Smith and Payne have been decent all year. So a win for Gloucestershire is far from impossible.

The odds for Smith are more exciting than Payne's, and we think Smith is performing better. He has 7 wickets in his last 3 games and is incredibly efficient lately, with total stats of 15/278. He should only get better with more playing time.
Charlesworth has the best odds out of the three top Gloucestershire batters, and he's done well this season with 259 runs. He had a few bad games, but his 35 runs against Yorkshire shows he can make runs again and his skill can certainly help him to be the top scorer.
With 294 this season, Clark is quickly proving that he can be the best batter in the team. He's been reliable for a while, but lately he's been aiming for bigger scores, like his 47 versus Kent. The odds are worth a try here.
