SUR vs SOM Match Prediction - Jun 30, 2023

This could be one of the most interesting matchups we’ve seen for a long time in the T20 Blast. Somerset and Surrey have the top two spots in the South Group, respectively, but Somerset has some breathing room being four points above Surrey.

The biggest news for Somerset is the inclusion of leg-spinner Ish Sodhi for a short-term contract, as the team is dealing with injuries to bowlers Peter Siddle, Roelof van der Merwe, and Lewis Gregory.

Surrey vs. Somerset will take place at Kennington Oval, London, on June 30th. Make sure you check the top betting apps when betting on the latest matches.

SUR vs SOM Team Previews

Surrey

Surrey (8-4) now holds down the second-place position in the South Group, although Hampshire remains considerably close with 14 points. Despite Surrey's season beginning with poor performances, the team is incredibly strong lately with three wins out of their last five games, although the loss to Middlesex is pretty embarrassing, as it's the only win of the season for the bottom-dwelling squad.

Evans, among the top batsmen in the T20 Blast, is assisting Surrey in winning games comfortably. His 481 runs have mostly come from three outstanding games of 93, 85, and 118* but it's great to see him playing more consistently. Jacks is the No.2 batter with 468 runs, but he's been catching up to Evans quickly due to his 69 and 96 in recent games. Surrey needs Sam Curran to be more reliable, as there's clear talent there.

Although Surrey's bowling attack is robust, spinner Narine (16/346) and fast bowler Sam Curran (13/340) are the two causing the most difficulties for opposing batters. For the majority of the season, Curran was only a passable bowler, but his 5/26 performance against Somerset showed his potential. That said, there’s some worry about Surrey’s top bowlers, as both have been iffy to put it lightly. Narine has just two wickets in his last four matches, while Curran has one wicket in his previous three games.

Will Jacks, Laurie Evans, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Sean Abbott, Sunil Narine, Chris Jordan, Gus Atkinson, Thomas Lawes.

Somerset

Somerset (10-2) has been utterly dominant this season, and it’ll be no fun to play them in any future match. There are a few key injuries to bowlers, but the signing of Ish Sodhi is enough to cover up the cracks. After all, winning three games in a row doesn’t happen by pure luck.

It's intriguing how Somerset is outperforming every other team, since it seems like a true collaborative effort. Every batsman is contributing when possible, but Smeed has grown and grown to become the No.1 guy on the team. His 404 runs stand out as the most impressive, as he has 66 and 78 in his last two games. Having Kohler-Cadmore (389) and Banton (328) as the next-highest scorers is almost unfair, as Somerset has such great batting depth.

Fast bowler Ben Green is tearing up the T20 Blast with an astonishing 25 wickets and only 358 runs allowed (ER 8.69), and it's obvious that Somerset relies heavily on Green to win games. However, there are a lot of bowlers to help Green, including Henry (17/271) and Davey (13/207). The loss of van der Merwe for a few games can hopefully be managed with Sodhi's presence.

Somerset Playing 11

Tom Banton, Will Smeed, Tom Kohler Cadmore, Thomas Abell, Tom Lammonby, Ben Green, Kasey Aldridge, Craig Overton, Josh Davey, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi.

SUR vs SOM Toss Prediction

Teams will definitely want to bat in the second innings, since the pitch tends to grow even better later in the contest. The team batting second has won 37/64 times, which is hard to argue with.

Pitch and Conditions

For this pitch, batting has considerable benefits and most teams reach high totals, particularly in T20 matches. The maximum score made on the ground is 240 runs, although the average is between 160 and 170. Because there is less bounce on this pitch, it is much easier for batters to predict the direction of the ball.

SUR vs SOM Betting Tips

Despite winning the South Group right now, Somerset actually has better Satbet odds, which means now’s a great time to bet on them. Surrey will be no pushover, but Somerset is just so powerful with bat and ball. Smeed, Kohler-Cadmore, and Banton are an impressive batting trio, and just having Green on the lineup is enough of a bowling threat.

Somerset will need to remove Evans and Jacks for low scores, but otherwise, they will be able to handle Surrey.

Bet on Somerset to win.

Jacks is rapidly becoming the best batter for Surrey, and it's not unreasonable that he'll pick up another half-century in this match. He's tallied 468 runs this season, but we really like his recent efforts of 69 and 96 in the last two games. Now's the time to bet on Jacks.

Smeed has risen through the ranks to become the top-scoring batter for Smeed, which isn't easy on a team with Kohler-Cadmore and Banton! His odds are actually good right now, which means it's a perfect time to jump on this chance. Smeed already has 404 runs this season, but his recent performances of 66, 78, and 94 make us trust him to be the top scorer.

Smeed (25 sixes) and Kohler-Cadmore (24 sixes) are both capable of big shots over the fence, and the odds are actually way higher than Surrey. If those two batters can perform up to standards, with Abell and Banton chipping in a few, then they'll help win this bet.
