Spirit Women

The Spirit women's cricket team has played 4 matches so far in the competition and has won 3 out of these 4. They have had to endure just a single loss and they have 11.5 points so far in the league stages of the competition. The Spirit team played their last match in the competition earlier today and recorded yet another win. Their all-rounder Nicola Carey was in prime form hitting 84 not out from just 28 balls. She also picked up a single wicket while bowling.

Tornadoes women batted first in this game and got off to a great start with their opening batters putting together a good partnership of 44 runs for the first wicket. This was followed by the skipper Stefanie Taylor hitting 61 not out from 48 balls with 10 fours. The most successful bowlers during the Tornadoes' innings were Nicola Carey, Sophia Dunkley, and Shizuka Miyaji. Dunkley was the pick of the bowlers when she dislodges a couple of batters while conceding just 20 runs from her 4 overs. Carey and Miyaji picked up a wicket apiece in a supporting role.

The Spirit women's innings got off to the worst possible start with a couple of wickets going down with practically nothing on the board. But there was a 49-run partnership between Natthakan Chantham and Kerry Ann Tomlinson for the 3rd wicket. This was before the skipper Nicola Carey arrived at the crease. Carey nailed the Tornadoes' bowling attack hitting 7 sixes and 7 fours while scoring 84 runs from just 28 balls. This inning ensured that the Spirit got home easily in the end with plenty to spare. Chantham gave her company till the end.  

Falcons Women

The Falcons women also played their last game earlier today against Sapphires' women. In this 12th game of the competition being played in Kowloon, the Falcons women crushed the Sapphires women's team with a thumping victory by 9 wickets. Chamari Athapaththu was in terrific form for the Falcons and did not allow a whisker to the opposition. She remained not out on 75 she scored from 44 balls and was instrumental in making sure that the Falcons women did not encounter any nasty surprises. Athapaththu also picked up a wicket in the game.

The Sapphires' innings ran into troubled waters right at the outset and were reduced to 63 for 7. It looked at one stage that they might not even reach the 100-run mark in the game. But thanks to some good batting by the lower middle order players viz. Kary Chan and Shabnim Ismail the team managed to post a reasonable total of 131 runs on the board. Kary Chan scored 32 runs from 26 balls with 2 sixes and 3 fours while Shabnim Ismail scored 26 runs from 18 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four.

The best bowler on the scene for Falcons’ women was Marizanne Kapp. She picked up 3 wickets in her 4 overs while giving away just 15 runs in the process. Sornarine Tippoch also picked up 2 wickets for 11 runs from her 4 overs. Both these bowlers were extremely economical as well giving away less than 4 runs per over apart from picking up these crucial wickets. Although Falcons lost an early wicket of Danni Wyatt, their skipper Suzie Bates and Chamari Athapaththu ensured that there were no nasty surprises during their innings as they hunted down the smallish total easily in 13.3 overs. Chamari Athapaththu hit 7 sixes in her inning.
