The South Coast Sapphires are going into this game with a win under their belt in their last encounter. In the 10th game of the FairBreak Invitational Tournament played on 9th April, Sapphires women took on Tornadoes women. This was a rain-affected game and was reduced to 7 overs-a-side affair in the end. The Sapphires outfit managed to score a solid 36-run win over the Tornadoes women in the game even in this shortened version of the match. Tash Farrant was adjudged player of the match for her contribution with both bat and ball. She not only scored 36 not out but also picked up 3 wickets for 11 runs during the Tornadoes' innings.

The Tornadoes women won the toss in this rain-curtailed game. They decided to put the South Coast Sapphires into bat. In this rain-curtailed 7-overs-a-side affair, the Sapphires team got off to a poor start losing a couple of early wickets in the form of Erin Burns and Gaby Lewis. But there were no further wickets in the innings as Katherine Sciver Brunt and Tash Farrant went about the resurrection efficiently. Sciver-Brunt scored 35 runs from 16 balls with 3 sixes and 1 four while Farrant was equally dominant scoring 36 runs from 18 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours. Sapphires set a good total on the board scoring 95 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

The Tornadoes' inning was in troubled water right from the outset as they kept losing wickets periodically and none of the batters managed to dig in for a big inning. The player of the match Tash Farrant picked up 3 wickets for 11 runs from her 2 overs. She was well supported by her partner in crime Katherine Sciver-Brunt who picked up 2 wickets in her single over for just 8 runs. These two not only scored almost all the runs but also picked up all the wickets during the Tornadoes' innings. Tash Farrant bowled economically as well apart from picking up vital wickets to earn the Player of the Match award.

Falcons Women

The Falcons are going into this game after a 2-match losing streak. In their last game of the competition which was the 7th game of the season, they took on Warriors women. Falcons women batted first in this match to set up a score of 133 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their stipulated quota of 20 overs. The Warriors women responded with 134 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in just 17.4 overs to register yet another win in the competition. Kathryn Bryce from Warriors was adjudged Player of the Match for her bowling effort where she picked up 2 crucial wickets for 21 runs.

While batting first in this game, the Falcons' openers failed to provide a good start to their team. Both the openers were dismissed for 5 and 3 runs respectively with nothing much on the board. But there was a good partnership for the third wicket between Theertha Satish and Suzie Bates who is the skipper of the Falcons women's team. Theertha Satish scored 45 runs from 37 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Suzie Bates hit 44 runs from 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes as well. After these two, set batters gout there was little resistance from the remaining batting order except Christina Gough who hit some lusty blows towards the end to score 21 runs not out.

Unlike their counterparts the Falcons, the Warriors' top-order batting did a reasonable job. Ellie Johnston who opened the innings scored 37 runs from 27 balls with 5 fours and 1 six while her partner Phoebe Litchfield scored 32 runs from 34 balls with 5 fours. After the top 3 batters got out the Falcons bowlers did threaten for a while with some quick wickets. Mariko Hill specifically was in great form picking up 3 wickets for 11 runs from 2.4 overs. Chamari Athapaththu and Kaia Arua also picked up a wicket apiece but the rest of the bowlers went wicketless.
