RSA vs IND Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 24, 2018
The last match of what has been an utterly engrossing tour so far as upon us. South Africa won a well-contested test series, while India absolutely dominated the ODI’s. The T20 international series is currently locked 1-1 and we will have a virtual final to cap the tour. South Africa made an excellent comeback after being beaten quite comfortably in the first T20 thanks largely to Klaasen. Does the fact that rain was a factor in both their limited over match wins so far mean something? Or are they just getting the hang of facing India’s leg spin? One thing is for sure, both teams will want desperately to win this match and end the series on a high.
RSA vs IND Team Previews
The victory for South Africa in the second T20 was borne out of a much-improved performance in which they tested each and every facet of India’s game. Quick wickets, including that of Virat Kohli’s, set back the Indians after another rocket start, while the decision to promote Heinrich Klaasen put immense pressure on Yuzvendra Chahal.
There were a couple of factors that would bother South Africa, though. The first would be the inability of their bowlers to keep the Indians to low totals. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did not contribute anything to the total and Shikhar Dhawan got out after a short cameo. The Indians were still able to get to a total of 188.
Junior Dala was very impressive but Morris and Paterson seemed intent on bowling short even when the tactic was not showing the desired results. We don’t think that South Africa will change up a winning combination but that is something they must work on.
The advantage that South Africa has in this lineup is calling upon a number of players to help complete the overs. Seven bowlers were used in total by South Africa in the second match in stark contrast to India that has stuck with its five frontline bowlers so far.
While the bowling was a bit of a letdown, the batting more than made up for it. Reeza Hendricks once again provided a good start at the top of the order and set the platform for Duminy and Klaasen to provide the knockout blow.
The situation in which Klassen entered the game was pretty difficult and once again it seemed like the Indians were edging ahead. In just the matter of a few overs, though, Heinrich Klaasen set about smashing sixes at will and pushed South Africa comfortably ahead of any potential DLS situation that might arise.
Duminy also played the supporting role in the beginning and then joined the boundary fest to dim any hope of Indian making a comeback into the match. South Africa’s top order is looking in terrific touch and they still have David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, and Chris Morris to help make a contribution if needed.
They will go into the final T20 high on confidence but wary of what India is capable of as well.
South Africa Playing 11
David Miller, Reeza Hendricks, Jean-Paul Duminy, Heinrich Klaasen, Farhaan Behardien, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Christiaan Jonker, Tabraiz Shamsi, Junior Dala, Aaron Phangiso.
India once again seemed to lift their foot off the pedal just a little bit after the first victory and let the door open for South Africa to barge right back into the contest. Jasprit Bumrah earned a well deserved rest but expect him to slot right back in for the final T20 international.
We would like to see Bumrah replace Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav brought in for Yuzvendra Chahal. Playing with two spinners has proven successful for India in the ODI’s and we think they could give that a go here as well especially since Jaydev Unadkat has not been too successful, either.
With Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya bowling quite well, this would give India the best possible bowling combination.
It is no coincidence that India has faltered the two times when rain has been a factor. The wet ball becomes very difficult to grip for the spinners and skids on better to the bat instead of gripping off the surface. A dry day has been forecast for the final T20 and that will definitely be music to the spinners ears.
While the bowling for India faltered under pressure, there were some positives to take from the match. Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni got valuable time in the middle and played excellent knocks. Shikhar Dhawan also continued to play aggressively and time the ball beautifully before he got out against the run of play.
Rohit Sharma can never be counted out in the shortest format and Virat Kohli brings his best out on the big occasions. We would like to see Kohli return to his place at number 3 and let Raina handle the middle overs.
Suresh Raina will be peppered with short deliveries every time he plays till the end of his career and he is yet to show that he can handle that form of attack consistently. This last match will be very crucial for the left-hander as he needs a big performance to try and come back into the ODI team as well.
India has won 7 out of the 11 matches played on this tour but knows it must win this last match to go back with the feeling of having completed a very successful tour. You can rest assured knowing Virat is going to come at this match with every fiber of intensity he can generate.
India Playing 11
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, SK Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, SN Thakur, JJ Bumrah.
Pitch and Conditions
The weather gods seem to be smiling down on us at the moment because the forecast is for a slightly cloudy day with no chance of rain. Whether that actually comes to pass will be seen but of more interest will be the surface. Newlands offered a lot of bounce and pace in the test match but played a little slow and offered turn in the ODI.
For this match we expect to see a flat pitch with good bounce and some huge scored being racked up. 400 runs in the match should not be counted out.
RSA vs IND Betting Tips
India is going to come at South Africa with a renewed intensity and put its best bowling attack on the park. We think they have the ammunition to overcome a South African team that is still finding its feet.
