South Africa

South Africa suffered a couple of embarrassing losses during the group stages. But other than that, its performance has been pretty consistent and it was the second team after India to book a place in the semis. South Africa has been knocked out of the World Cup twice by Australia, once in 1999 and then in 2007.

However, with its current crop of players, the Proteas have an excellent chance of exacting revenge.

Quinton de Kock, who has announced his retirement after the end of this World Cup, is in belligerent form. He has scored 4 centuries in 9 innings. He is among the top 3 run-getters. Temba Bavuma has been struggling so far and it will be important for him to get some runs in this match.

With Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen all playing well, South Africa has one of the most devastating middle orders in this series. Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo are two quality all-rounders who can add important runs toward the death.

Gerald Coetzee has emerged as one of the best finds for South Africa in recent times as he has picked up 18 wickets in just 7 matches. He will be supported by Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi with the new ball. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi are two quality seamers on the squad.

Australia is the most successful team in the history of ODI World Cups and this is the 9th time that they have managed to make it to the knockouts. They were knocked out by the eventual champions England in the 2019 edition but will look to put up a winning performance this time around.

Barring the loss in the first two matches, Australia has been brilliant in this tournament, especially with their batting. David Warner is their most successful batsman with 499 runs. He, along with Travis Head is capable of giving Australia a brisk start. Mitchell Marsh scored an unbeaten 177 runs in the last match and looks in fine touch.

Glenn Maxwell has scored 2 centuries in his last 3 innings, including a memorable double-century against Afghanistan, and will once again play a key role towards the death overs. In the bowling department, Adam Zampa is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 22 wickets.

Australia’s pace unit has some of the best seamers in the world including Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. While they haven’t been in their best form on this tour, they can still be devastating with the new ball.
