RR vs LSG Team Previews
Rajasthan Royals
The Royals ended last season's IPL in fifth position after being runners-up in 2022. That second-place finish was a lot stronger than the previous three seasons, when they ended in seventh or eighth position. Here's another chance for them to show they can, indeed, add to the maiden title they won 16 years ago.
Rajasthan have boosted their resources with the recruitment of Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Rovman Powell. The Indian batter, England batter and West Indian all-rounder should bring plenty of value and balance to the Royals' squad.
The Royals won't have Prasidh Krishna, though. The Indian fast bowler has been sidelined by injury again - and ruled out of the entire 2024 Indian Premier League. South African fast bowler Nandre Burger can play his part in making up for the absence of Krishna. This will be Burger's first IPL.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Yuzvendra Chahal were Rajasthan's top run-scorer and top wicket-taker, respectively, in last season's Indian Premier League. Jaiswal and Chahal have been retained in the squad. The hard-hitting opening batter and world-class leg-spinner are huge assets for the Royals.
Rajasthan Royals Playing 11
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Sharma, YS Chahal.
Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow are relatively new to the IPL, having competed in two editions so far. They reached the play-offs in 2022 and 2023 - and ended in third position in both seasons. There is plenty of promise to build on. They haven't been as strong as fellow newcomers Gujarat Titans, but the Super Giants could be in for their best campaign yet.
Manimaran Siddharth and Arshin Kulkarni are solid recruits for the Super Giants. The left-arm spinner and big-hitting all-rounder typify the new local talent available to the franchise. They have lost Mark Wood. The England fast bowler won't be at the IPL due to injury. Shemar Joseph is his replacement and an exciting prospect, indeed.
The Super Giants have made some changes amid their leadership. KL Rahul will remain captain, but Nicholas Pooran has been appointed his vice-captain. Krunal Pandya had the role previously. Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener has been hired as assistant coach. He comes with recent experience in the Caribbean Premier League and SA20.
The Super Giants have their top run-scorer and leading wicket-taker from last season back. Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi were outstanding in 2023 - and should be key in 2024 as well. Bishnoi, like Chahal, is one of the best leg-spinners at the tournament. Stoinis is a kingpin with the bat, complete with recent Big Bash League and SA20 experience.
Lucknow Super Giants Playing 11
Lokesh Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Devdutt Padikkal, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Naveen ul Haq, Yash Thakur.
