Paarl Royals

The Paarl Royals were one of the most consistent teams in the first half of the season and lost only 1 of their first 6 games. As a result, they did manage to finish in the top 4. However, the team’s form has seen a severe dip as they have lost 4 consecutive matches heading into this contest.

Much will depend on the performance of Jos Buttler, who is the leading run-scorer for the team with 398 runs. His opening partner, Jason Roy, has struggled to play consistently and has failed to convert his starts into big innings. The inconsistencies continue in the middle order as well.

David Miller and Mitchell van Buuren started well but their form too has dipped in the last week. While there is no dearth of batting talent thanks to players like Dane Vilas, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Wihan Lubbe, the team will need at least one of them to play well in this match.

Phehlukwayo has bowled well in patches, picking up 9 wickets so far. He will feature in the pace attack along with Obed McCoy and Lungi Ngidi. Tabraiz Shamsi is the key spinner and has picked up 9 wickets so far. 

Joburg Super Kings

The Super Kings had a disastrous start to their campaign which saw two of their first 7 matches get washed away due to rain, while they managed to win just 1 from the remaining 5. However, with 2 wins in the last 3 matches, the team huffed and puffed its way to the playoffs.

Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy put up a century stand for the opening wicket in the last match and more of the same will be expected from them in this match. While du Plessis has played well in patches, du Plooy has been consistent throughout the season and is the top run-scorer for the team.

There are some excellent batsmen in the middle order, including the likes of Will Madsen, Reeza Hendricks, and Donovan Ferreira but none have been able to make much of an impact on the proceedings. Coming to the bowling, Lizaad Williams has bowled exceptionally well to pick up 15 wickets and is among the top wicket-takers of this season.

However, he has received little support at the other end. Nandre Burger has struggled to find his rhythm, while Doug Bracewell and Moeen Ali have been quite expensive.
