That defeat exposed some of the Scorchers' challenges for the rest of the campaign - and they will be hard pressed to bounce back against Stars opposition they have not beaten in their last two attempts.

Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine have been the Scorchers' leading run-scorers this tournament. Mooney has the most runs overall, across all teams. Her 535 in 12 innings include a century and five half-tons. Her impressive form will be key against Melbourne, who must focus on getting the opener out early.

Amy Edgar is Perth's leading wicket-taker in the 2023 WBBL. Edgar has collected 19 wickets in 12 matches and has been among the most consistently good right-arm seamers this tournament. Her tournament average is under 14 and economy rate less than seven.

Perth have won the WBBL title once, but finished in a lowly fifth position last season. As leaders of this season's points table, they effectively have a target on their back. This will be a challenging end to their round-robin campaign, starting with this big fixture against the Stars.

It's in the bowling department that the Stars are arguably outshining Perth, though. Sophie Day has 23 wickets and Sutherland 21. They are among the best combinations of left-arm spin and right-arm seam in this season's edition of the Women's Big Bash League.

Sutherland is an outstanding all-rounder. Her roles with bat and, particularly, ball will be important to the Stars' push to beat Perth for a third consecutive time. Melbourne have not qualified for the next stage of the tournament, but they can hamper the title favourites Scorchers again.
