Perth can consolidate their standing at the top of the table ahead of the play-offs, while the Stars will pursue consolation. Let's see what the betting odds and cricket markets have in store for this WBBL fixture.

Perth Scorchers Women

Perth won four matches in a row against the Heat, Renegades, Thunder and Sixers before meeting the Thunder again and losing. That defeat exposed some of the Scorchers' challenges for the rest of the campaign - and they will be hard pressed to bounce back against Stars opposition they have not beaten in their last two attempts.

Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine have been the Scorchers' leading run-scorers this tournament. Mooney has the most runs overall, across all teams. Her 535 in 12 innings include a century and five half-tons. Her impressive form will be key against Melbourne, who must focus on getting the opener out early.

Amy Edgar is Perth's leading wicket-taker in the 2023 WBBL. Edgar has collected 19 wickets in 12 matches and has been among the most consistently good right-arm seamers this tournament. Her tournament average is under 14 and economy rate less than seven.

Perth have won the WBBL title once, but finished in a lowly fifth position last season. As leaders of this season's points table, they effectively have a target on their back. This will be a challenging end to their round-robin campaign, starting with this big fixture against the Stars.

Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Maddy Darke, Natalie Sciver, Amy Jones, Chloe Piparo, Amy Edgar, Piepa Cleary, Alana King, Lilly Mills, Chloe Cathryn Ainsworth.

Melbourne Stars Women

The Stars lost to the Thunder twice, Hurricanes and Sixers before securing wins over the Renegades and Heat recently. But those wins have effectively come too late. Even if Melbourne win the rest of their round-robin fixtures this WBBL season, they'll only have 12 points - and finish outside the top four teams.

Melbourne have relied heavily on Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey and Meg Lanning for a regular flow of runs this WBBL season. But none of the three have reached the lofty heights of Mooney, Devine and others. Lanning has 236 runs to Capsey's 232 - and Sutherland has 202.

It's in the bowling department that the Stars are arguably outshining Perth, though. Sophie Day has 23 wickets and Sutherland 21. They are among the best combinations of left-arm spin and right-arm seam in this season's edition of the Women's Big Bash League.

Sutherland is an outstanding all-rounder. Her roles with bat and, particularly, ball will be important to the Stars' push to beat Perth for a third consecutive time. Melbourne have not qualified for the next stage of the tournament, but they can hamper the title favourites Scorchers again.

PERW vs MLSW Toss Prediction

Four of the last six WBBL matches at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth have seen the toss-winning captain opt to bat first.

The team to win the toss this time will likely choose to bat first again. This is relatively different to other grounds for this tournament in Australia, where sides have generally elected to chase rather than set targets.

Pitch and Conditions

The last three first-innings totals in the WBBL at this venue have been 171, 104 and 165. A first-innings total of 150 should be competitive this time. Only one team has been bowled out in the last six innings here in this tournament.

Perth last hosted a WBBL fixture on 5 November. More than two weeks since, the pitch should be well rested and full of runs. This will be a day-night fixture, with conditions expected to skid on for the bowlers in particular.

There is no rain predicted in the region for the days leading into the match. No wet weather is forecast for matchday. We should get a full fixture in here.

PERW vs MLSW Betting Tips

Perth are at the top of the points table, but have lost their last two matches against the Stars, who are out of contention for a play-off berth.

The Scorchers have a strong batting department, but Melbourne's bowlers are a real threat. It could be worth betting on the longer outright match odds here.

The Stars are priced at 2.5 underdogs to beat the 1.70 favourites Perth.
