PAK vs NZ Team Previews

Pakistan

As expected, the hosts were at the top of the game right at the onset as they made small work of their opponents.

Choosing to bowl first, the Pakistan seamers exploited the conditions to the fullest, getting early breakthroughs with the help of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Amir. Afridi bowled a brilliant spell, picking up 3 wickets for just 13 runs, while Amir and Naseem Shah picked up 2 and 1 wicket respectively.

The hosts also have a potent spin attack consisting of Abrar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Iftikhar Ahmed. Chasing a modest target of 91, the team hardly broke a sweat as they completed the proceedings in just over 12 overs.

The bowling lineup of Pakistan is world-class and we expect them to reip through the New Zealand lineup once more.

Saim Ayub and Babar Azam are likely to open the batting yet again, while Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan, and Irfan Khan add heft to the middle order. With the perfect balance of players, the hosts are well-poised to take on any challenge thrown their way.

Pakistan is trying some new things and may make a few mistakes but in home conditions, it is far too strong to be troubled by a second (third?) string New Zealand team.

New Zealand

While not many expected the Black Caps to win the last match, the fans would have hoped for a better performance from them.

The visitors lost their top 3 batsmen inside the Powerplay and couldn’t manage to recover as they were bowled out for a paltry 90 runs. With most of their first-line players missing the series either due to injury or due to IPL commitments, the rookie team will need to come up with something special if they want to level the series.

Tim Seifert, James Neesham, Mark Chapman, and Michael Bracewell are three of the most experienced batsmen in the team and will have to bear most of the scoring responsibilities. The visitors have a few talented individuals like Dean Foxcroft, Tim Robinson, and Cole McConchie but they do not possess much international experience.

Coming to the bowling, New Zealand’s bowlers are no match for the vastly experienced Pakistan batting. Ben Lister, Bracewell, and Ish Sodhi did manage to pick up a wicket each on Saturday but they will need to be very accurate with the line and length to keep the opposition under leash.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Rawalpindi contains some moisture as it has been raining here over the past week. There is an even covering of green grass on the surface and the quicker bowlers can expect some help early on in the match. While things do get better for the batsmen as the match progresses, they will have to be careful with the shot selection. We can expect a good contest between the bat and the ball.

A score of around 165 is a par score.

The weather is expected to be pleasant with temperatures of around 22 degrees.

PAK vs NZ Betting Tips

Pakistan registered a comprehensive win on Saturday and should have no trouble in putting up a repeat performance. While the punters can expect very little return thanks to the odds on offer, it doesn’t make sense to bet against the hosts.

The pitch at Rawalpindi isn’t the easiest to bat on as it offers plenty of help, especially to the seamers. As seen in the last fixture, the batsmen will find it difficult to go after the bowling and get a big over.

Rizwan is one of the most experienced batsmen in the Pakistan line-up. He has an average of close to 40 against New Zealand and has scored at least 28 runs in 4 of his last 7 innings against them, including 2 half-centuries. We are therefore expecting him to play another good inning.

Afridi is in excellent form with the ball. His bowling style is perfectly suited to exploit the seam-friendly conditions at Rawalpindi. Also, his recent record against the Black Caps is pretty good and he has picked up at least 2 wickets in 3 of his last 4 matches against them. Betting on him is an almost sure-shot way of doubling your wager.
