After winning their opening fixture against London Spirit, the second match saw the Oval Invincibles snatch a tie at the very last ball against the Welsh Fire and shared the spoils. Oval Invincibles have 3 points against its name, just like 4 other teams in the tournament.

Jason Roy and Will Jacks haven’t been able to give the team a strong start in both matches so far and will look to make amends here. Both are clean strikers of the white ball and will surely bounce back going forward. Jordan Cox scored a gritty half-century in the match against Welsh Fire and was responsible for holding anchor at one end.

However, it was Tom Curran who played the most important role with the bat and his cameo of 38 runs saw the team level scores at the very last delivery. There are capable batsmen in the middle order, including Sam Billings and Heinrich Klaasen but Oval will need them to step up and score runs.

The bowlers have done well to limit the opposition to modest totals in both matches so far. Gus Atkinson is the leading wicket-taker with 4 wickets, and has the support of Sam Curran, Zak Chappell, and Tom Curran at the other end, while the spinners, Nathan Sowter and Sunil Narine have done a good job too, picking up 5 wickets between them. 

Manchester Originals

After 3 matches, the Manchester Originals have managed to collect 3 points and are currently second on the points table thanks to its excellent NRR. The team won its latest match against Birmingham Phoenix by 49 runs and will look to build on the winning momentum.

Jos Buttler has led his team from the front, scoring 142 runs in 3 innings, and is the leading run-scorer of the tournament. However, he has received little support from the batsmen at the other end. He has an explosive opening partner in the form of Phil Salt but the latter hasn’t been able to get going yet.

Similarly, the batsmen in the middle order, including Laurie Evans and Max Holden have struggled to convert their starts into a big inning. One of the positives for Manchester is that the team has plenty of depth in its batting. All-rounders Usama Mir, Jamie Overton, and Paul Walter are all capable of adding valuable runs in the death overs.

Tom Hartley and Joshua Little have bowled a couple of excellent spells and are the joint-highest wicket-takers for the team. Paul Walter, Usama Mir, and Richard Gleeson have bowled well in patches but have been expensive at times.
