Otago Volts

The Otago Volts played their last match in the competition earlier today. In a day/night game, they played against Auckland Aces in the 10th game of Super Smash. The Auckland Aces batted first to score 151 runs for nine wickets from their quota of 20 overs. The Otago batters showed a lot of determination during their chase, and despite the loss of crucial wickets in the middle, they managed to reach the target in 19.4 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Travis Muller was adjudged player of the match for his all-round contribution.

The best bowlers for Otago in the Auckland innings were Travis Muller and Jake Gibson, who were the most successful bowlers during the Otago innings, picking up three wickets each. Andrew Hazeldine and Ben Lockrose also bowled economically, picking up one wicket each. During the chase, Hamish Rutherford and Dean Foxcroft provided early impetus to the Otago innings. Rutherford hit 32 runs while the skipper Foxcroft scored 51 from 39 balls with five fours and one six. Llew Johnson, Ollie White, and Travis Muller made helpful contributions lower down the order.<br />  

Canterbury Kings

The Canterbury Kings played their last game in the competition against Central Districts in New Plymouth. This 9th match of the Super Smash saw Canterbury batting first to score 185 runs from their quota of twenty overs for the loss of four wickets. The rain interruption meant the target was revised to 176 runs from 19 overs. But the Central District’s side could manage just 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets from these 19 overs. Canterbury Kings won this match by a margin of 33 runs in the end.

The Canterbury skipper Cole McConchie was in prime form during the Kings’ innings. He smashed 79 runs from just 47 balls, with as many as eight sixes and four fours. In the lower middle order, he and Michael Rippon took the Central Districts bowling apart. Rippon scored 58 runs from 33 balls. The Central District’s bowlers worked in tandem to dismantle the CD batting line-up. Three bowlers picked up two wickets each. They were William O'Rourke, Zakary Foulkes, and Michael Rae.<br />
