NOT vs DER Team Previews

Nottinghamshire

Last year, the Nottinghamshire Outlaws outfit missed out on qualifying for the next round of the Vitality Blast T20 competition. This was the first time it happened since 2015. They will be desperate to put in the extra yard and qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. Towards this effort, they have decided to bring in the premier Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. This is bound to provide much need impetus to the Notts' bowling attack. Afridi will be joined by Colin Munro as the overseas player for the T20 team.

The Kiwi batsman Colin Munro was a part of the Trent Rockets team last year that won The Hundred title. He is once again likely to play a crucial role in the batting department of Nottinghamshire. Munro is an accomplished opening batsman in the T20 format. He has played as many as 357 T20 games and has amassed 9493 runs from them at a useful average of 30.52. He has 5 centuries and 55 half-centuries to his credit. But the Notts will dearly miss the services of their top run-getter last season, Ben Duckett.

Duckett is occupied with the international England team participating in the Ashes. It is expected that Tom Moores will step up in his role. Moores managed to score 266 runs last year from 14 games at a strike rate of 143.78. The Nottinghamshire opening batter Alex Hales did not have a great season in the Pakistani T20 competition as he succeeded in scoring just 137 runs from 6 innings. However, he is an accomplished cricketer and will be keen to make an impact in this season. Keep in mind that Hales had a good last season in T20 Blast 2022 with 374 runs from 14 innings at a terrific strike rate of 193.78.

Derbyshire

The Derbyshire team has got off to a disastrous campaign in the Vitality Blast 2023 with a 4-wicket loss to Lancashire. While batting first in this match Derbyshire scored a good total of 179 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. However, it was a good batting track at Edgbaston and the target they set was not sufficient. The Lancashire team succeeded in reaching the target with 4 balls yet to go. The main issue for the Derbyshire team during this game was that many of their batters succeeded in getting starts but could not convert them into big scores.

Wayne Madsen was the leading run-getter for Derbyshire with a 50 from 35 balls. For bolstering their batting order this year, Derbyshire has added Haider Ali and Matt Lamb to their ranks. Ali was dismissed for a zero in the first game. However, he remains a promising player for his team. He is capable of delivering destructive performances for his team at the top of the inning. Haider Ali is an experienced campaigner and has the experience required at this level. He might be successful in changing the fortunes of the Falcons this year.

The Derbyshire skipper Leus du Plooy hammered 33 runs from 16 balls in the first game. He appeared to be in great shape and we expect him to play a big hand soon. Derbyshire would also bank on the young Pakistani fast bowler Zaman Khan to get wickets. He regularly clocks more than 90 mph. He adds a zip to the Derbyshire bowling unit. Last season George Scrimshaw was the top wicket-taker for Derbyshire picking up 23 scalps from 15 innings. He was a tad expensive though going at an economy rate of 9.07.

NOT vs DER Toss Prediction

Pitch and Conditions

The wicket on offer at the Trent Bridge ground in Nottinghamshire is normally a batting beauty. There is little assistance for the bowlers from this track. It is going to be a fresh wicket on offer for this game. So, the ball will come onto the bat nicely. Batters can begin hitting through the line of the ball early to get the feel of the bounce offered by the track. The average first-innings total on this ground is 166 runs in T20 cricket. The highest score put up at the venue is 261 runs for the loss of 2 wickets by Birmingham Bears.

We have seen scores above 200 runs on this track 3 times in the T20 Blast earlier. So, the team batting first on the venue will try to set a target of close to 190 runs on this pitch. It is expected that we will get a pleasant day for cricket on this day. There is some chance of having a cloud cover but the overall conditions will be ideal for cricket.

NOT vs DER Betting Tips

The Nottinghamshire Outlaws team has a clear advantage if you look at the head-to-head record between the two teams. They have a 26-7 record against Falcons. Apart from that, the Derbyshire outfit has been defeated by Nottinghamshire in their last five games against each other. Notts are also playing at their home and this is another major advantage for the team. Notts has a much greater firepower in their batting line-up as well. With the addition of Shaheen Afridi, they also have a potent bowling attack. The Derbyshire batting line-up appears to be decent on paper but whether it will deliver on the match day remains to be seen. The Falcons’ bowling attack is quite thin and may go for a lot of runs on this track. We will bet with Nottinghamshire to win this game.
