NOSW vs BIPW Team Previews

Northern Superchargers Women

The Northern Superchargers had a decent season in 2022 but will be aiming for a higher spot, as the team finished in 5th place (3-3) and missed the Finals.

The top two run-scorers from last season, Wolvaardt (286) and Healy (129), will not be returning for the team. However, Hollie Armitage has returned and will be a huge boost, as she scored the third-highest runs with 119. Furthermore, the Superchargers are bolstered with big-name overseas names such as Jemimah Rodrigues (India), Georgia Wareham (Australia), and Phoebe Litchfield (Australia).

The bowling has taken a bit of a stumble with Katie Levick (6/97 in 2022) switching teams to Birmingham, but the good news is that pace bowler Alice Davidson-Richards has returned and led the team last season in wickets taken with 7, although she’ll have to lower that ER of 9.42.

Grace Ballinger, Leah Dobson, Bess Heath, Alice Richards, Georgia Wareham, Hollie Armitage, Jemimah Rodrigues, Kate Cross, Marie Kelly, Phoebe Litchfield, Linsey Smith.

Birmingham Phoenix Women

Birmingham will also be aiming for an improved 2023 season, as they finished fourth last year (3-3) and ended things with a poor three-straight losses.

Top run-scorer Perry (134) has left the squad, but there are useful additions of Erin Burns (Australia) and Tess Flintoff (Australia). Sophie Devine (New Zealand) has returned to Birmingham to helping with the batting, as she scored 103 runs last season. Amy Jones (123 runs) had stayed in the side and will be a key part of the team this year.

Arlott remains in the team, which is important, as she was the squad’s top bowler in 2022 with 9/100. Elwiss (6/136) is gone, but the inclusion if Levick is a strong move and one that is necessary. Flintoff can also help with the bowling, as she’s a top allrounder.

NOSW vs BIPW Toss Prediction

The captain winning the toss will likely bowl first, as the pitch often helps batters in the second innings. Spin is usually seen later and is useful when the pitch can begin to deteriorate.

Pitch and Conditions

Headingley is regarded as quite balanced that does offer great swing and bounce right from the beginning. Still, batters tend to love this pitch later on as things start to slow down. Opening batters in the first innings will have a tough time, but experienced players will show their worth.

NOSW vs BIPW Betting Tips

The Parimatch odds are practically identical for each team (although slightly better for Birmingham), and as it’s the first game for both teams this season, it’s a bit hard to judge. However, we’re going to go with Birmingham in this match, simply because they kept several vital players from last season and added some great new names.

The Supercharges lost Wolvaardt and Healy, but despite some great new inclusions to replace those important batters, we’re going to wait and see how the team looks. Therefore, Birmingham should be in a better spot to start the season.

Northern Superchargers Women Top Batter: Hollie Armitage

With Wolvaardt and Healy gone, Armitage appears to have a bigger batting role this season. She'll still have to bat alongside Rodrigues, but Armitage was impressive last season with 119 runs and has been excellent in recent ODI matches. Her odds are really worth a try.

Birmingham Phoenix Women Top Bowler: Emily Arlott

Arlott and Levick have the same odds, but you'd be better with Arlott as she's highly experienced and had a great last season. She was the team's best bowler with 9/100 and was in good form lately in ODI games for the Sparks. Her best last year was 3/19 but we think she can do better.

Birmingham Phoenix Women Top Batter: Erin Burns

    7/2

The odds for Devine and Amy Jones aren't too exciting, but we like the option of Burns for this bet. She only had 33 runs last season, but does have instances of high-scoring games, especially with the Sparks in the ODI league with 66 runs. She'll have to work harder this season, but she can bat really well if necessary.
