Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire finished their foray into the North Group league competition of the T20 Blast in second position. They succeeded in winning eight out of their 14 games and, as a result, collected 18 points with a net run rate of -0.151. They are going into this contest after three wins on the trot. In their last game in the competition, they defeated Lancashire with four wickets and eight balls to spare. Batting first in this game, Lancashire batters touched the 200-run mark in their effort, although they lost nine wickets.

Somerset

Somerset ended their league stage campaign in third position. In the fourteen games they played, Somerset managed to win eight with a net run rate of +0.497. But they are going into this game on the back of a loss in their last encounter against Glamorgan in the league stages of the tournament. They did win the three games before that, though. The South group game between Glamorgan and Somerset was played at Cardiff on 19th July 2024. Glamorgan batted first to raise a massive total of 243 runs from their twenty overs while losing just four wickets.

The Somerset batting collapsed under this massive target chase and was bowled out for 123 runs in 13.3 overs. Ben Green was the most successful bowler for Somerset, picking up two wickets for as many as 48 runs from his three overs. The only other bowler that got a wicket was Riley Meredith. Somerset made a decent start to the big chase, but after losing the openers, none of the other batters apart from Tom Abell showed too much resistance. Abell top-scored with 29 runs, and Tom Banton scored 28 runs. But the lower middle order collapsed under the weight of this massive target.
