These two teams were scheduled to meet each other for the first time during this season on 22nd July. But this game had to be abandoned due to rain. The last full game played by Northern Diamonds women was against Central Sparks. This was the 32nd match of Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and it was played at Leeds. Batting first in this game, Northern Diamonds women could score 223 runs for the loss of 4 wickets from a rain-curtailed innings. This total was achieved in 34 overs. After the initial rain interruptions, there was more rain to follow during the Central Sparks innings.

Finally, the Central Sparks women were asked to score 164 runs from 19 overs according to the D/L equation. The Central Sparks team managed to score the runs with 5 wickets to spare and with 2 balls remaining. The Central Sparks chase was inspired by their all-rounder Katie George. She hit a half-century during the Sparks chase to guide the team to a close win. The Diamonds women were in a good situation at 223 for 4 from 34 overs. But another rain interruption meant that Sparks had to chase down an easier proposition.

The Diamonds' batting was bolstered by their skipper Hollie Armitage who scored a super 66 from 56 balls. Bess Heath also smashed an unbeaten 49 from 31 balls to take the Diamonds total to a good one. These two shared 66 runs from 7 overs for the 4th wicket. The Diamonds outfit got off to a fluent start thanks to Lauren Winfield Hill and Sterre Kalis who scored 60 runs from 12 overs. Sparks were off to a great start and reached 40 for no loss in 5 overs. The Australian Burns was asked to open the innings. But it was George together with Ami Campbell who ensured that Sparks women won 5th game out of the 9 played in the competition.

Southern Vipers

The Southern Vipers played their last full contest against Western Storm on 15th July. This was the 33rd game of the competition and was played at Street. It was also a rain-interrupted affair but Southern Vipers women managed to record a comfortable win. Batting first, Western Storm scored 230 runs for the loss of 5 wickets from their 48 overs. The Southern Vipers outfit chased these runs in 43.4 overs to register a 4-wicket victory with as many as 26 balls to spare. The D/L equation came into the picture but it hardly made a difference to the outcome of the contest.

Georgia Adams and Maia Bouchier managed to score useful half-centuries during the Southern Vipers chase in difficult conditions to take the Southern Vipers team to a solid 4-wicket victory in a game played at Millfield School. Bouchier and Adams hit 71 and 59 runs respectively. These two were involved in a 95-run stand for the second wicket. The visitors had to overcome gale-force wind but recorded an easy win with 26 balls still to go. Adams also picked up 2 wickets for 50 runs to complete an all-round performance in the game.

Another spinner playing for Southern Vipers was Linsey Smith who picked up 2 wickets for 36 runs. She picked up key wickets at opportune moments to put a damper on the opposition's scoring rate. This was the 3rd victory for Southern Vipers from their 9 games and took them to 5th position on the points table. Due to the impending threat of getting showers, bowling first was always a better alternative. The Southern Vipers also made a good attempt at chasing the target. The early rain interruption meant just a couple of overs were lost and we got a 48-overs-a-side game.
