Netherlands

Although the Netherlands have done well to reach this far in the Super Six tournament, their progress is going to be tough with only two points. Still, it’s worth fighting because you never know.

The batters have been quite balanced and there’s a real team effort in the squad. Nidamanuru (172) and Singh (163) have helped out, but the bulk of the credit needs to go to Edwards (284) and O’Dowd (211).

It’s fair to say that O’Dowd really hurt Netherlands’ chances against Sri Lanka by scoring a duck, but it’s likely that Sri Lanka would have won that match in any case. Edwards is incredibly consistent, somehow scoring 67 runs in three consecutive matches… very freaky.

The bowling is a bit more top-heavy, with de Leede (10/233) and van Beek (9/218) doing the bulk of the work, then it starts to drop off from there. Netherlands will rely heavily on these two to get the victory, but they should be able to dispatch the Oman batters.

Oman

With zero points, there’s no way Oman is getting into the World Cup, but it’s still good to keep trying for progress.

Prajapati has probably been the most exciting batter with 194 runs, although most came from his 103 effort against Zimbabwe. Ilyas with 187 runs is certainly the most consistent, but apart from these two, there’s not so much in the way of skilled batters ready to take over a match.

Bilal Khan (10/255) and Butt (10/285) have bowled quite well throughout the tournament and have been capable of troubling the batsmen. Khan had one fantastic game of 5/55 versus Scotland. We worry that the Netherlands batters will score too many runs when these two bowlers have finished their overs.
