MOW vs BIPW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 07, 2023
The terrible English weather seems to be winning the Women’s Hundred right now, as the Originals have yet to play a game so far with two abandoned matches due to rain. The Phoenix have also just played one (a loss to the Superchargers), as their most recent match against the Rockets was called off because of persistent rain. Let’s consider playing indoors!
Manchester Originals Women vs. Birmingham Phoenix Women will be played (hopefully) at Old Trafford, Manchester, on August 7th. Always check out our cricket betting tips for your favourite team.
MOW vs BIPW Team Previews
Manchester Originals Women
There’s little information to go from about the team in 2023, as we’re yet to see them play.
Manchester ended the 2022 season with a 2-4 record, placing them in sixth place overall. However, the club has seen a significant amount of off-season acquisitions and subtractions.
Allrounder Deandra Dottin is still there (147 runs in 2022), but Manchester has managed to bring in the top batter and bowler from the previous year, being Laura Wolvaardt (286 runs) from South Africa and Amanda-Jade Wellington (17 wickets) from Australia, respectively. This reduces the loss of Lizelle Lee (169 runs) to Trent. Lamb (136 runs) and Ecclestone (8 wickets) have thankfully remained in Manchester.

Birmingham Phoenix Women
With only one match to go from, we still think Devine is the key piece for the Phoenix’s batting. She certainly underperformed last season, as she only managed to average 17.16 and make a total of 103 runs. She’s usually great when playing ODIs for New Zealand, and her start to 2023 was promising with 46 runs.
No longer having Perry in the side is a major blow to the batting, but that simply means Burns, Flintoff, and Amy Jones will have to take a step up. None of these batters was impressive in the loss to the Superchargers, but let’s see how they look against the Originals.
It was a surprise to see Arlott only bowl 5 deliveries in the first match, as she was the top bowler last season with 9/100. Flintoff didn’t help at all with the bowling (four 4s smashed from five deliveries), but Wong is one to watch, as the pace bowler had 1/9 in five deliveries (keep in mind that an over is 5 balls in the Hundred).

MOW vs BIPW Toss Prediction
Any team that wins the toss must decide to bat first in order to benefit from the ideal batting conditions of the pitch. The team batting first will benefit since the pitch is often not particularly lively at the start.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
Pitch and Conditions
As the Old Trafford pitch often benefits batters, any team batting first frequently scores huge totals and therefore wins. Currently, the side batting first wins has gone on to victory 33 out of 59 times in T20 games played on this surface. It won't come as a surprise if spinners take a lot of big wickets on this particular surface, considering their prior success here.

The 10Cric odds will definitely favour the Originals, and it’s hard to disagree. We haven’t been so impressed by the Phoenix in their first game, but it’s too early to judge just yet. We’d like to see what kind of help Devine gets with the batting, and the bowling really needs to improve.
The roster on this Manchester team is just so strong, namely Wolvaardt and Wellington. With big names alongside current stars like Dottin, Ecclestone, and Lamb, the Originals may well face the Invincibles in the Final with a roster like this.

While Dottin has somewhat higher odds, we believe it is still wiser to choose Laura Wolvaardt. Her chances of being the best batter are actually quite good, and she will undoubtedly be fantastic this season yet again. She had an outstanding season in 2022, leading the league in scoring with 286 runs and a staggering 71.50 batting average.
Ecclestone and Wellington have exactly the same odds, so it's better to go with Wellington because she led the league in wickets taken last season with 17. Her season-best was 3/17, but there is a good potential that she may do better in 2023 because she's in form right now.
Devine is a safe choice, but her odds aren't very exciting in this match. Better to go with Burns, as you can win a lot of money and she has been playing well for the Sparks in ODI games recently. She was a bit low scoring last season, but there is always hope that she'll score big due to her experience.
