The Perth Scorchers are the favorites to win this match. But the Melbourne Stars have been known to spring a surprise here and there, making this an interesting game to watch.

The Stars will need to win this match at any cost if they want to keep their semifinal hopes alive. The team has done well to recover, as it faced 3 consecutive losses at the start of the season, and 2 of its matches got washed away, forcing them to share points with the opposition. As a result, they are 6th on the points table, 3 points behind the Scorchers. They will be facing Brisbane Heat in the last match, and its road to the knockouts looks pretty difficult.
Batting has been the biggest letdown for the Stars this season. Hugely dependent on Annabel Sutherland and Alice Capsey, the other batter around them have failed to provide them with the required support throughout this season.
Annabel Sutherland is the top scorer as well as the top wicket-taker within the squad, while Capsey has done all the heavy lifting in the middle order. Sasha Moloney has picked up 17 wickets in 12 matches but is bowling below her abilities. The other bowlers have simply failed to have any effect on the opposition.

The defending champions from the last season started their fresh attempt for the title on a strong note, winning its first 3 matches on the trot. However, the team seems to have lost its direction of late, losing 3 of its last 4 matches. As a result, its place in the top 4 isn’t yet confirmed.
Beth Mooney has only gotten better with age and is the leading run-scorer for the Perth Scorchers as well as in the league this season. She has received good support from Maddy Green, who along with Marizanne Kapp has lent stability to the otherwise average middle order. Kapp has been superb with the ball too, picking up 10 wickets so far. Sophie Devine hasn’t been in the best of forms with the bat but has compensated with her all-round abilities.
Alana King has by far been the best bowler within the squad. Lilly Mills has bowled well in patches, but more will be expected of her in the next couple of matches if the Scorchers want to qualify.
