MLS vs SYT Team Previews

Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars haven’t had the best of starts this season. They have lost both their matches by huge margins and are firmly placed at the bottom of the table with a very poor NRR.

Despite having some quality batsmen playing for them, the Stars haven’t been able to put up a good batting show as the team hasn’t been able to cross the 115-run mark so far. Hilton Cartwright is the leading run-scorer for the team with an aggregate of 57 runs.

He will be the key batsman for the Stars as far as the middle order is concerned. Thomas Rogers and Sam Harper are likely to open the batting in this match and will hope to give their team a strong start. The other batsmen in the line-up include Nick Larkin, Beau Webster, and Liam Dawson.

The bowling has been equally underwhelming. Joel Paris has picked up a wicket in both games but has gone for over 10 runs an over. He will lead the pace attack alongside Haris Rauf and Marcus Stoinis, while Usama Mir is the specialist spinner on the squad.

Sydney Thunder

Much like their opponents, the Sydney Thunder too have lost both their matches so far and are sitting in the bottom three.

The Thunder's latest loss came against the Adelaide Strikers in a high-scoring encounter and the team will look to take some positives from that match. Cameron Bancroft was in fine form as he scored a brilliant 74 at the top of the order. He will be joined by Alex Hales, who has yet to play to his full potential.

Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, and Nathan McAndrew have all got some good starts but will need to convert them into big scores. Coming to the bowling, Tanveer Sangha is in brilliant form and is the leading wicket-taker for the team with 4 wickets. He has also been quite economical during his spells.

He will be supported by Chris Green in the spin department. The seam attack consists of Zaman Khan, Daniel Sams, and Liam Hatcher, who have picked up 5 wickets between them.

Pitch and Conditions

This is only the second BBL match that will be played at the Lavington Oval and not much is known about the pitch. The previous match was a high-scoring one, seeing close to 400 runs being scored. There is a good amount of pace and bounce and the ball comes nicely onto the bat.

The team batting first will look to score around 200 runs to give the bowlers a good chance at defending. The pitch does slow down a bit in the second innings.

The weather is expected to be overcast with some drizzling, and that in turn could lead to interruptions.

MLS vs SYT Betting Tips

Both teams are coming into this contest on the back of consecutive losses and will be eager to get some points on the table. We feel that the Sydney Thunder are at a slight advantage in this match. Their batting has been much better compared to the Stars, and that will be an advantage on a good batting surface.

Bet on the Sydney Thunder to win.

The opening pair of Cameron Bancroft and Alex Hales gave the team a brisk start in the last match, scoring 25 runs in 2 overs. Bancroft in particular is in very good touch. On the other hand, the opening pair of the Stars have put up partnerships of 2 and 5 in the two matches. We are therefore backing the Thunder to put up the bigger partnership.

Sam Harper seems to be going through a lean patch. He has scored a total of 5 runs in his two innings so far. As he faces a good bowling attack, we expect another poor outing for him.

The pitch at the Lavington Sports Oval seems to be good to bat on. As both teams have some big hitters, we are expecting plenty of boundaries from them.
