MLRW vs MLSW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Oct 29, 2022
It’s the battle of Melbourne as the Stars take on the Renegades. Melbourne fans probably deserve better, however, as these teams make up the last two on the WBBL ladder.
The Stars are especially bad with not a single win this season, although to be fair their last match was called off due to the rain. The Renegades have one victory so far, but it’s fair to say each team could use some better luck.

Melbourne Renegades Women
The Renegades had a tough loss to the Strikers by 18 runs, but when you look at the batting performance, it’s not hard to see why Melbourne struggled. Carly Leeson’s 35 runs was the top score, but she had little help from the top order, as Matthews (8), Molineux (1), and Jones (8) were all dismissed too quickly.
The squad’s top run scorer, Courtney Webb, had a decent effort with 29 runs from 37 deliveries, but a total team score of 101 just won’t cut it in a highly competitive WBBL. Captain Molineux is in a world of her own right now, scoring just 9 runs in her last three matches. There are serious questions to be asked about her place on the team.
Not that the bowling was much better, as the only bowler to take any wickets was Sarah Coyte’s 2/19. Put simply, the Strikers rolled all over the Renegades and made a mockery out of them. They’ve got to be better, and playing the lowly Stars will give them a chance.

Sophie Molineux, Hayley Matthews, Erica Kershaw, Chamari Atapattu, Courtney Webb, Carly Leeson, Ellie Falconer, S Coyte, Georgia Prestwidge, Ella Hayward, Shabnim Ismail.
Melbourne Stars Women
If the Renegades are bad, then what can be said about the Stars in last place?
The team was not given a chance to bat against the Thunder, as the game was called off midway through Sydney’s innings. So it’s not fair to judge them there! The Stars did very nearly beat the Scorchers recently, so there’s something to be proud of. However, they don’t award points for almost winning.
If the Stars have any chance against the Renegades, then surely it will come from batter Lauren Winfield-Hill. She’s as talented as they come, and her 74 runs against the Heat prove she’s more than proficient in hitting big totals when pressure is on the line. We just wish she could do it more consistently.
Kim Garth is the bowler to watch as she’s taken 4/44 in her last two matches, but she still needs that 3/20 game to really push the Stars to another level. She’s been average with the bat, but it’s bowling where she can make a statement.

MLRW vs MLSW Toss Prediction
The Renegades seem to prefer batting second, so expect them to send the Stars to bat first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions
The pitch here rarely favours batters or bowlers, so it’s likely to be a fairly even match. More probable is the batters getting the shots they want from anywhere.
MLRW vs MLSW Betting Tips
It’s hard to choose but given the recent form of the Renegades, we’d have to pick them over the Stars. There’s a bit more batting talent like Courtney Webb, but we’re really hoping for a better show from Molineux.
It’s turning into a bit of a season to forget for each team, but the Renegades can certainly bring the batting and bowling pressure to defeat the Stars easily. Plus, the Renegades are 8-4 against the Stars and have won the last three matchups.
Bet on the Renegades to win.
