MLRW vs HBHW Team Previews

Melbourne Renegades Women

The Melbourne Renegades are enduring one of their poorest seasons yet and are already eliminated from the race to the playoffs. However, they sprung a surprise on Friday by defeating the Brisbane Heat in a close encounter.

Hayley Matthews, who had a relatively quiet season with the bat so far, finally managed to get some runs in that match as she top-scored for her team with 46 runs.

She will be a vital cog in the Renegades team thanks to her all-round abilities. Emma de Broughe and Tammy Beaumont will open the batting for them. Beaumont has got a good start in most of her games but is yet to score a half-century.

Similarly, Harmanpreet Kaur, who is the leading run-scorer for the team, will need to play a big inning. Georgia Wareham has proved to be a reliable all-rounder, scoring 274 runs and picking up 9 wickets. She, along with Matthews, will look to dry up the runs during the middle overs.

Sarah Coyte has been very effective in the last couple of matches, picking up 5 wickets in 2 games, and is now the leading wicket-taker for her team.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

While the Hurricanes have fared a bit better compared to the Renegades, they have been rather inconsistent and as a result, are 6th on the table. With just 3 more matches to go, a loss in this match will greatly diminish the team’s chances of qualifying for the next stage.

Lizelle Lee was in prime form in the last match as she slammed her 3rd half-century of the season and led her team to a win after 4 consecutive defeats. She, along with Elyse Villani, will be the key batter for the Hurricanes. The middle order has struggled throughout this season as the likes of Heather Graham, Bryony Smith, and Ruth Johnston have been unable to score runs freely.

Coming to the bowling, Molly Strano and Nicola Carey both picked up 3 wickets each in the last match. Heather Graham is the leading wicket-taker for the Hurricanes with 13 wickets. Shabnim Ismail hasn’t been that effective and has 9 wickets in 11 games.

MLRW vs HBHW Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Junction Oval is good to bat on early on in the game. The average first-inning score on this surface is around 160. There is a good amount of pace and bounce and the ball comes nicely onto the bat. The seamers will get some movement early on but that shouldn’t bother the batters much. However, as the pitch gets older, it will slow down and the spinners will get some turn.

The weather is likely to be clear with temperatures of between 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.

MLRW vs HBHW Betting Tips

Both teams have been rather inconsistent this season. Given their unpredictable form, it is a bit difficult to pick a winner. However, we are going to back the Hurricanes to win here. As they are playing to keep the qualification hopes alive, we are likely to see them give their 100%. That said, the Renegades have some quality players and are more than capable of causing an upset.

Bryony Smith hasn’t been in the best of forms this season. She has crossed the 11-run mark just once in her last 9 innings and we expect her troubles to continue.
