MID vs ESS Match Prediction - Jun 18, 2023

It’s fair to say that only one team has something to play for in this matchup. As of now, Middlesex hasn’t won any game yet this season and sits at 0-8. Meanwhile, Essex has had quite a decent run so far, and is placed fourth on the table with a 5-2 record.

This Middlesex vs. Essex matchup will take place at the famous Lord’s Ground, London, on June 18th. The latest cricket betting tips can always be found right here.

MID vs ESS Team Previews

Middlesex

What positive things can you say about a team that has lost every game in the 2023 T20 Blast? Last season, Middlesex went 4-10 and finished second last, but it’s unusual for the team to be even worse this year.

It must be frustrating to be batter Stephen Eskinazi, as he’s actually having a pretty good season and is in the top 15 run-scorers of the league with 258. There were two worrying matches in a row when he scored 1 & 0, but he followed those up with a very impressive 94*. Malan is giving some help with 206, but there’s little to be excited about here.

There’s no doubt that bowling is where Middlesex is really falling flat, as there’s just not enough of a threat to the opposition. Too many runs given up without enough wickets is a bad recipe, but Middlesex are just being too weak on the bowling side. Hollman is the best bowler, which is really saying something, as his 7/200 stats are nothing special. Next-best is Helm with 7/323 (ER of 10.30), and the list is continually unimpressive.

Stephen Eskinazi, Joe Cracknell, Ryan Higgins, Max Holden, John Simpson, Jack Davies, Luke Hollman, Martin Andersson, Joshua De Caires, Tom Helm, Nathan Fernandes.

Essex

Essex has looked better and better as the season progresses, as they are currently on a three-game win streak. It would be surprising if they drop a game to lowly Middlesex.

It’s quite the surprise that Essex are so high on the table and picking up so many wins, as there isn’t an individual batter who is really shining like on other teams. Pepper (166 runs) and Das (158) are the top two scorers, but these totals are very low compared to their competition. Lately, however, some unexpected batters are stepping up, such as Critchley’s 63* or Walter’s 78.

Essex’s bowling is sublime, as they have four bowlers in the top 15 in the league, and there is where the team really shines. Sams is the biggest hero with an impressive 14/207 (7.91 ER), which is quite hard to do in a T20 league. Harmer (12 wickets), Critchley (12), and Cook (12) all help out with the fantastic bowling, and Cook is especially one to watch after he took 4/18 and 4/20 in recent wins.

Feroze Khushi, Dan Lawrence, Michael Pepper, Robin Das, Paul Walter, Matt Critchley, Daniel Sams, William Buttleman, Simon Harmer, Shane Snater, Samuel Cook.

MID vs ESS Toss Prediction

In T20 games, the records are fairly even, with the team batting first winning 21 out of 38 times. Still, captains should look to the past and go for batting first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

Lord’s is usually quite a balanced pitch, but one that helps batters early on and sees some movement later. Spinners can be useful here, but pace bowlers will need to work especially hard in the early overs.

MID vs ESS Betting Tips

The 10Cric odds for Middlesex are pretty enticing and surely they will win at least one game this season, but it just doesn’t appear to be against Essex. Even though Essex’s is simply fine with Pepper and Das scoring at a good rate, it’s going to be the bowling that will trouble Middlesex.

With four top-quality bowlers like Sams, Harmer, Critchley, and Cook in the lineup, we can’t trust the Middlesex batters to score more than Essex. Eskinazi could make a decent score, but he’s not always reliable and could falter under the intense pressure.

Bet on Essex to win.

Although is the most successful bowler for Essex, the best odds for this game are for Cook. There's a great money return here, and it's worth a try, as Cook has 12 wickets so far, and had two incredible games in a row with 4/18 & 4/20. His bowling can do a lot of damage when in the zone.

    Essex Top Batter: Michael Pepper

Pepper isn't scoring as much as other batters in the league (166 runs), but there's always a chance he can put up a great performance and do something special. He's had recent scores of 42, 48, & 63, so we're confident that he could go as high as 70. The odds are generous, too.

    Middlesex Top Batter: Steve Ezkinazi

The odds aren't amazing, but there's no one else we really trust for Middlesex. He's had lows of 1 & 0 lately, but that 94* is incredibly impressive. He may not help Middlesex enough to win alone, but there's a good chance he'll still score a big amount and push up his scoring total past 258.
