Manipal Tigers

The Manipal Tigers were among the most consistent teams during the group stages and ended at the top of the points table. However, they were thrashed by the Urbanrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 as they lost by 75 runs. Nevertheless, they have one more chance to make it to the finals.

Despite having some exceptional players, the batting has been a bit of a letdown for the Manipal Tigers this season. Chadwick Walton is the leading run-scorer for the team with 154 runs but has received limited support from Kyle Coetzer at the top of the order.

Coming to the middle order, Angelo Perera scored a fine half-century in the last game and will once again be the key player. However, the likes of Colin de Grandhomme, Mohammad Kaif, and Thisara Perera haven’t been the best.

The bowlers have contributed immensely to the team’s success so far. Imran Khan is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 9 wickets. He will be supported by Mitchell McClenaghan and Pankaj Singh in the seam department, both of whom have picked up 7 wickets between them.

Harbhajan Singh has been very economical and has also picked up 5 wickets. He will feature in the spin attack alongside Praveen Gupta, who has also picked up 5. 

India Capitals

The defending champions weren’t in the best of forms during the group stages. The Capitals managed to win just 1 of the 4 group-stage matches and barely managed to make it through to the playoffs. However, they seem to be peaking in form just at the right time as they defeated the Gujarat Giants in a high-scoring Eliminator.

Despite the losses, the batsmen have performed well for the Capitals. Kirk Edwards and Gautam Gambhir put up an excellent opening partnership in the last match to set the base for a big total. Gambhir went on to score his second half-century of the season and will once again look to give the team a brisk start.

Kevin Pietersen, Ricardo Powell, and Ben Dunk lend heft to the middle order, while Bharat Chipli and Ashley Nurse will look to add runs in the death overs. The India Capitals have one of the strongest new-ball attacks of the tournament, with Isuru Udana and Rusty Theron picking up 15 wickets between them.

However, they have received very little support from the other bowlers.

Pravin Tambe and KP Appanna have picked up just 5 wickets between them. Ishwar Pandey, who was playing his first match of the season on Wednesday picked up 2 wickets but was quite expensive.
