KDW vs JSK Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 05, 2023

We are just about approaching the half-way mark in the Lanka Premier League 2023 and things are looking to be pretty exciting at the moment. All teams are still pretty much capable of topping the table, highlighting how close the tournament has been. The difference between the teams placed at the opposite ends of the spectrum - Jaffna Kings and B-Love Kandy, are within a couple of points of each other and all can change very quickly.

Up next in the tournament, we have these two sides, the Kings and the B-Love Kandy, taking on each other in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest. Although the teams are placed at the contrasting ends on the ladder and the match may appear to be a rather mismatch, the two teams are a lot closely matched.

This upcoming match between the two sides is set to be played at the R Premadasa Cricket Ground, Colombo on 5th August 2023.

KDW vs JSK Team Previews

Kandy Warriors

B-Love Kandy had a terrible start to their campaign, losing both their opening matches, but they bounced back to reckoning with a fantastic win in their most recent match. Although the win made no difference to their position on the points table owing to their poor net run-rate, it certainly did get them off the mark.

In their last match in what was an impressive display of skills across all departments, the bottom-ranked B-Love Kandy put on an all-round show to secure a remarkable victory against the second-placed Dambulla Aura by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.

The foundation of their win was set by the opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Dinesh Chandimal, who set the tone for the chase with a solid 67-run partnership. Fakhar played cautiously, scoring 28 runs off 26 balls with five boundaries before falling to Dhananjaya de Silva's delivery in the eighth over. Chandimal continued the pursuit, forming a brief 30-run partnership with Kamindu Mendis. However, he was unfortunate to be run out with B-Love Kandy still requiring 58 runs off 53 balls. Chandimal's splendid knock of 48 runs off 29 balls, featuring seven boundaries, was the highest individual score for the team.

After Mendis's dismissal in the 16th over, the experienced Angelo Mathews joined explosive batter Asif Ali at the crease. The duo showed composure and skill, ensuring a smooth run-chase for B-Love Kandy. Asif Ali played a quickfire innings, contributing 16 runs off just eight balls, while Mathews remained unbeaten with 28 runs off 20 balls.

Together, Mathews and Asif Ali forged an unbeaten 31-run partnership, guiding B-Love Kandy to a remarkable victory in the 19th over, delighting their fans with a memorable performance.

All in all, it took a while for B-Love Kandy to get going but now that they have, the other teams are surely going to feel the heat, given the team they have. If they can continue to play how they did, getting past them could prove to be an incredibly difficult task.

Kandy Warriors Playing 11

Fakhar Zaman, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Sahan Arachchige, Wanidu Hasaranga, Asif Ali, Nuwan Pradeep, Isuru Udana, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Dushmantha Chameera.

Jaffna Kings

Just when they were staring down the barrel, the Kings made an impressive comeback to rise to the top of the ladder with a win over Galle Titans. Jaffna Kings made an impressive comeback, proving that their previous loss was just a one-off. With this victory, they reclaimed the top spot in the table, handing Galle Titans their first defeat.

This would be Jaffna’s second game in 24 hours and it would be interesting to see how they deal with the fatigue of playing back-to-back matches, it's yet to be seen how the quick turnaround affects Jaffna's performance. Given that they are winning, having momentum and playing matches in quick succession could prove to be a blessing in disguise. They have had an inconsistent start as defending champions, experiencing defeat against Dambulla Aura. This match presents an intriguing challenge against a team coming off a win.

Unexpectedly, Hridoy was once again their chief star as he showed his mettle, taking on national team skipper Shakib Al Hasan to get his team in front. After charging down the ground for a single, he later smashed the left-arm spinner for a six and a boundary in consecutive deliveries, aided by a bit of luck with an edge going for four. Hridoy's remarkable innings, featuring four sixes and two boundaries, formed an 83-run partnership with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 54 off 39 balls. It’s the second time Hridoy has won his side a match and now he would certainly be seen as a major threat by the opponent’s camp. Before their last match, which they lost, they fell short with a score of 129/7 while batting first, and Galle comfortably chased down the target. It was a rare failure of their batting, which is unlikely to happen again given the strength they have shown.

On paper, the Kings have an excellent side and will be very difficult to get past. If they can play to their potential here, getting past them could prove to be an incredibly difficult ask.

Jaffna Kings Playing 11

KDW vs JSK Betting Tips

This is an important match for both sides, but for contrasting reasons. The Kings will want to maintain their supremacy at the top of the table whereas the B-Love Kandy would want to rise up the ladder. Both sides are coming off a win in their previous match and will likely produce a cracking contest. Given what we have seen over the course of the tournament thus far and the two teams on paper, a bet on Jaffna Kings should be the way to go.
