Jamaica Tallawahs

Jamaica will go into this match on the back of defeat to Barbados Royals earlier this week. The Tallawahs have now lost two matches in a row and will be eager to avoid a third. The current champions need to get their title defence on track promptly.

Captain Brandon King's promising start to this season's CPL has taken a back seat to consecutive low scores. The arrival of England batter Alex Hales to open alongside King did not work well against the Royals. They'll back themselves collectively and individually to do better this time.

The Tallawahs can be buoyed by wicketkeeper-batter Shamarh Brooks' 78 despite defeat to Barbados - and all-rounder Imad Wasim's ongoing contributions with the bat is making life a bit more straightforward for the middle- to lower-order.

Jamaica went without leg-spinner Hayden Walsh against the Royals and only used five bowlers. Again, they paired spinner Chris Green and seamer Mohammad Amir with the new ball. Amir and Green were relatively solid in combination, but the rest of the bowling resources did not follow suit. This is their opportunity to right those wrongs.

Brandon King, Alex Hales, Shamarh Brooks, Raymon Reifer, Jermaine Blackwood, Imad Wasim, Fabian Allen, Chris Green, Salman Irshad, Mohammad Amir, Kelvin Pitman.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago have put a fragile start to the 2023 CPL behind them by winning two matches in a row. Success against the Royals and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bodes well for the Knight Riders, who remain in pursuit of a fifth Caribbean Premier League title.

New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill was immense en route to a century against Barbados earlier this week. Captain Kieron Pollard then put in a characteristically brisk knock through the middle order. It's the resounding ability of big-name players such as Pollard, Guptill and others to deliver on cue that make Trinbago such strong contenders.

Bowling-wise, Afghanistan recruit Waqar Salamkheil is an under-rated spinner and a promising asset for the Knight Riders. The experienced Sunil Narine can't always be relied on to take the bulk of the wickets from spin. Salamkheil has shown himself to be a worth spin partner to Narine.

Of course, Trinbago have the most prolific bowler in the history of T20 cricket. All-rounder Dwayne Bravo's return to the Knight Riders from the Partiots has brought good balance to their bowling line-up. And with fellow seamer Andre Russell bowling as well as he is with the new ball, Trinbago are again well positioned.

JT vs TKR Toss Prediction

The first two matches of the 2023 CPL's Bridgetown leg saw the toss-winning captain opt to bowl first and chase later. The decision brought a victory and defeat for each.

The trend will likely continue, as teams look to pursue rather than set targets. This was largely the approach in Gros Islet and later Basseterre before the tournament moved to Barbados.

Pitch and Conditions

Trinbago totalled has high as 194, while Jamaica posted as low as 160 at the Kensington Oval earlier this season. There is merit to fielding two specialist spinners in these conditions, which can get a bit slower as the match progresses.

The forecast suggests clear skies across Bridgetown this weekend. The rain that threatened earlier in the week looks to be leaving the region. Humidity levels will be characteristically high of Barbados.

JT vs TKR Betting Tips

Momentum counts for a lot in this short format of the game. Trinbago have it. Jamaica don't. The Knight Riders should win this match.

They have several all-rounders, excellent spinners and a power-packed batting order. The composition of their XI is arguably the best among the six teams in this season's CPL.

Bet on Trinbago to win this match at odds of 1.63. They're evidently the favourites. Jamaica are priced as underdogs at 2.50.
