India

India is easily a stronger team than the Netherlands in every aspect of the game. There is little doubt that the Indian team should be able to overpower the Dutch, no matter who they play. We do hope, however, that India will play its first-choice eleven. 

That would mean that every player is playing in the position they will hold at the World Cup and the team can test its balance. Gill and Rohit can be expected to open, followed by Virat at number three. KL Rahul has been playing a lot of cricket recently but he is a lock at number 4 and may be rested for Ishan Kishan. 

The real question ahead of India is to choose between one of Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav. Kishan brings a left-handed option in the middle-order and has been performing well, Iyer also scored a brilliant century against Australia, and Yadav seems to have cracked the ODI code just before the World Cup. 

It will be really tough but India will have to leave out two of them in the final playing eleven. 

Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya will be the two all-round options while Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj are the first-choice bowlers. This leaves a choice between R Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, or Shardul Thakur at number 8. 

Netherlands

The Netherlands got some cricket under their belt against Australia in their opening warm-up match but it was not enough to be declared as a result. There is no doubt that the Netherlands deserve to be in the World Cup after having played through the qualifiers brilliantly but it is also clear that they are a massive level below the other competing teams. 

Max O Dowd is their best batter while Logan Van Beek is an impressive bowler. The problem that comes to the fire in 50 over cricket is that it is not enough to have cameos from their best players. They need at least two or three players to have an excellent outing and that is just not going to happen often enough. 

Bas de Leede, Colin Ackerman, or even Vikramjit Singh have enough experience to be able to score runs. If they are all able to do it collectively, the Netherlands will put up a fight. They could struggle against spin and quality pace with the new ball. 

Roelof van der Merwe adds some much needed class to their spin-bowling option. Overall, though, there is a lack of depth that will make it difficult for them to pick up regular wickets or to defend any sort of total.
