IND vs NEP Team Previews

India

India faced Pakistan in a highly anticipated encounter on Saturday for its first match of the tournament. However, the weather played a spoilsport and we were unable to get a result, forcing both teams to share points. India is currently second in the group and will need to beat Nepal by a big margin to improve its NRR and finish at the top of the table.

While India managed to post a respectable total of 266 on Saturday, they will have to do a lot of introspection before the start of the next match. India’s selection woes were well-known before the start of the tournament, and the performance of some of the players has only aggravated the problem.

The top-order put up a poor show and at one stage, India very much had its back against the wall as they lost 4 wickets with just 66 on the board. However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya showed a lot of maturity to put up a 138-run partnership to help get the team to a par score.

The team might probably look to tweak its batting order a bit to get Kishan open the batting alongside the skipper, with Gill and Kohli dropping down a place. We expect the team to put up an unchanged playing eleven.

Bumrah will lead the pace attack with Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, while Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are the two spinners.

India Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.

Nepal

Nepal is playing its first-ever Asia Cup and finds itself in the company of two of the strongest teams in the tournament. They lost their opening fixture against Pakistan by a huge margin and will look to put up a better performance.

Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh will be the key batsmen for Nepal at the top of the order. The duo has done well as an opening pair and is among the top scorers for Nepal in this calendar year. With skipper Rohit Paudel set to come in at number 3, Nepal will need its top order batsmen to perform well against India’s fiery seam attack.

Nepal has plenty of all-rounders playing for it, providing depth to the batting. Dipendra Singh Airee has shown good form in recent matches. Aarif Sheikh and Sompal Kami got decent starts in the match against Pakistan and will look to keep up the good work here.

Sompal Kami is also one of Nepal’s most experienced seamers and will lead the new-ball attack with Karan KC.

Sandeep Lamichhane has played a couple of seasons in the IPL and has bowled against some of the Indian batsmen and that experience might come in handy in this match.

IND vs NEP Toss Prediction

The toss is unlikely to have much of an impact on the outcome of this match as the teams batting first and second have enjoyed a similar rate of success on this ground. However, looking at how the pitch played on Saturday, fielding first might be a good option.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Pallekele is well-balanced. The seamers will get some movement early on in the match and the batsmen will need to be cautious while facing the new ball. However, as the match progresses, it will get easier. There isn’t much turn on offer for the spinners.

A score of around 280 is a par score.

The weather will remain cloudy and we can expect some interruptions due to rain.

IND vs NEP Betting Tips

While India isn’t in the best of forms at the moment and has some issues with the team balance, they are vastly more experienced compared to Nepal and should have no problem defeating them.

India has a strong batting line-up and the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubhman Gill, and Virat Kohli are brisk scorers. They are likely to take full advantage of a weak pace attack of Nepal and we can expect a big total from them during the Powerplay.

Despite the failure of the top 4 batsmen to perform, the Indian team scored 26 4s in the match against Pakistan. Their batting performance will only improve in this match and we can therefore expect plenty of boundaries.

The pitch at Pallekele is well-balanced and will be particularly helpful to the seamers. The Nepalese batsmen will find it difficult to survive their full quota of 50 overs against India’s strong bowling attack and we therefore expect to see more than 13 wickets fall.
