IND vs ENG Team Previews

India

The hosts are in scintillating form this season and are the only team who are unbeaten so far. The Indians have performed brilliantly as a team, with various players stepping up at different stages of the tournament.

The Indian batting line-up is one of the strongest in the tournament and most of the batsmen are in fine form. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are among the top 4 run-scorers for this tournament and will once again play an important role in this match.

They have received excellent support from the likes of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer. The batting lower down the order is a bit untested and with Hardik Pandya unavailable for this game, India could face some jitters if the top order fails to get going. Bowling is another high point of India’s performance this season. Jasprit Bumrah has been relentless in his accuracy and has picked up 11 wickets so far.

Mohammed Siraj, while bowling well, is yet to reach his peak. However, Mohammed Shami, who replaced Shardul Thakur in the match against New Zealand, returned with a fifer and will be raring to have a go against England. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have picked up 15 wickets between them.

England

England will be hugely disappointed with the way things have panned out so far. They appear to be a shadow of the World Cup-winning squad of the last edition and have managed to win just 1 of the 5 matches played. England now finds itself in the bottom two and its chances of making it to the semifinals are all but over.

While there are some quality players at the top of the order, including Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, and Joe Root, England lacks a dynamic batsman like Jason Roy who was brilliant during the 2019 campaign. Malan has played well but is quite conservative in his approach.

Similarly, Root, who comes in at number 3, hasn’t been at his fluent best. Ben Stokes played a pivotal role in England’s maiden World Cup victory but has played just 2 matches so far. While his role as a batsman in the middle order is indispensable, his inability to bowl has left the team management in a dilemma.

The injury to Reece Topley came at the worst possible time for England as they were already struggling in the bowling department. This can be deciphered from the fact that Adil Rashid, who has picked up 6 wickets in 5 matches, is now the leading wicket-taker in the squad.

However, one can never count England out as they have always proved to be a tricky opponent for India.

IND vs ENG Toss Prediction

Teams enjoy a slight edge while chasing in Lucknow as they have won 4 of the 7 ODIs played here. Also, the last two matches were won while chasing. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to bowl first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Ekana Stadium is well-balanced and provides for an engaging contest between the bat and the ball. The surface has some grass on it which will help the ball skid early on and generate some pace. The seamers can also expect some swing early on in the match. As the ball gets older, it will get easier to bat on.

A score of around 280 will be a par score.

The weather will remain warm in the afternoon but there is some cloud cover expected. However, there is no forecast for rain.

IND vs ENG Betting Tips

India is in excellent form so far and we expect them to continue playing well. England on the other hand is struggling on all fronts and will find it difficult to turn things around against such a strong opposition.
