IND vs AUS Match Prediction - Sep 20, 2022

Indis vs Australia kicks off in Mohali with a lot at stake for both teams.  The T20 World Cup 2022 is just around the corner and every single match from here on in is going to be played with that in mind. Two of the strong contenders for the title, India and Australia, are going to be playing a three-match T20 series where both teams will try to fine-tune their combinations.

India may be the favorite at all the cricket betting sites but Australia is the defending T20 World Cup Champion and filled with players that have played an incredible amount of cricket in India.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs Australia 1st T20 2022. The match will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali on the 20th of September 2022.

IND vs AUS Team Previews

India suffered an early exit in the Asia Cup but we still think it played some excellent cricket, especially with the bat. There are a couple of questions that it has to answer.

  1. Should Virat Kohli open the batting?

  2. DK or Pant or both?

  3. Who are India’s best three fast-bowlers for Australia?

  4. One Spinner or two?

From this series, we do expect India to start playing a full-strength team in most matches. To start out, we think Rohit Sharma, Kl Rahul, and Virat Kohli will be the top-3. There is a lot of noise on social media that these three cannot fit into the T20 team together.

If there is a player that will go then that's KL Rahul but we think that is unlikely. KL Rahul’s ability against pace and bounce will be crucial in Australia but he will be required to score quicker.

SKY and Hardik Pandya are certainties in the middle-order. With Axar Patel likely to play at number 7, there is just one position open for DK or Pant. We think India will go with Dinesh Karthik and allow him the opportunity to present his case.

This is a strong batting lineup with a decent amount of depth. Axar at 7 is a step down from Jadeja and that is where India may find it tough to continue its high-risk attack strategy if it loses early wickets.

The return of Jasprit Bumrah could not have come at a better stage. He is India’s premier T20 bowler and needs some time in the middle before the T20 World Cup. We think Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Harshal Patel will be the preferred combination for India. If Bhuvneshwar Kumar is rested, then Deepak Chahar is an excellent option.

At home, India is going to be hard to stop. Its batting is strong with Virat Kohli in form and its bowling is also stronger than what we saw in the Asia Cup.

India Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, V Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, YS Chahal.

Australia has rested David Warner for this series. It is also going to be without Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, and Marcus Stoinis. All four of these players are certain starters in a full-strength Australian team and so the playing eleven for the series against India is going to be quite different than what we see in the T20 World Cup.

We think this Australian team will have a tough time competing against India. Aaron Finch is going through a terrible run of form, Steve Smith is not a top-rated T20 player, and Matthew Wade’s history against spin is not great either.

Josh Inglis could open the batting, Cameron Green could replace Mitchell Marsh, and Tim David will replace Marcus Stoinis. To be fair, all three of these players are world-class but they are short of experience at the top level.

Tim David lit up the IPL the last time around and it will be interesting to see if he can convert his big-hitting exploits from the T20 leagues to international cricket as well.

While the Aussie batting seems a bit undercooked, its bowling is very strong. Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa are sure to start. We think Kane Richardson is probably going to be the third seamer with Green, Maxwell, and even David chipping in as needed.

Australia has a great set of all-rounders and that will allow it to play a very deep batting lineup. Whether the inexperience in the team ends up costing it is going to be the question.

Australia Playing 11

Aaron Finch, Cameron Green, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

IND vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Three out of the five T20 internationals played in Mohali have been won by the chasing team. Defending a total is not easy and even 180-190 is within reach.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in Mohali are expected to be perfect for cricket. There is no rain predicted and while the weather will be a bit hot in the day, it should improve as the night falls. Dew could play a part and make it tough for the team bowling second.

The average score here is around 177 but we think teams will have to look towards 190-200 to feel comfortable defending.

IND vs AUS Betting Tips

We are going to bet on India to win. We think they are a superior team to what we saw in the Asia Cup, especially in the bowling department. Australia is also missing three of its key players and while the replacements are solid, they are not quite the same quality as the players they are replacing.

Bet on India to win.

India Total Runs : 1-6th Over

    Over 42.5 (1.45)

India's attack at all costs mantra has been well established at this point. Rohit Sharma has transformed his game and is taking on the bowlers from the start while KL Rahul also will be under pressure to do the same. We like the Over/Under line being offered and think India will get more than this.

    To Hit A Six

    Tim David (1.57)

We cannot remember an Australian player being more hyped up than Tim David in recent memory. He certainly brings a lot of T20 experience around the world and is known for his six-hitting exploits. Almost 60% return on clearing the boundary once? Well worth the risk in our opinion.

  1. 1xBet

    A Fifty in the Match

    Yes (1.25)

The odds for this bet are a bit low but we still think it is worth considering. The matches in Mohali tend to be high-scoring and that will usually mean at least one batter maximizing the opportunity. A small bet on this low-risk low-reward bet is recommended.
